Flying Eagles, Indian Head Cents and a long term project!

hfjacintohfjacinto Posts: 880 ✭✭✭✭✭

Of all the coins I have in my collection, I really like Flying Eagle and Indian Head Cents. And while I have completed a set in RAW, I always wanted a higher grade set (VF+). Over the last 3 years I have worked on various sets but always come back to the Flying Eagle and IHC set. As of today I have 49 slabbed coins and think its a good time to do a post. For the next 50 days I'll post one of the coins in the collection, and while you can see what I currently have at the NGC Registry (https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/269539/) that doesn't include any Anacs slabbed coins so it will never be complete, and honestly with some of the keys and semi keys this set may make a few years to complete.

Lets start off with the RAW set. Each coin was selected from my local dealer and a few have been upgraded. This is the set of today.

Tomorrow I'll start posting the slabbed coins.

Looks good. You can cross the Anacs ones so you can complete your registry set.

Lets start off with the 1857 Flying eagle. Of all the cents the flying eagles are my favorites. Such a simple but elegant design.

While the grade matters, I'm honestly trying to do a set in what I feel is a fair cost, so in some cases the coins are MS and in others they are circulated. The missing 15 we will see what I get, I'll try for a minimum of XF but sometimes it might get to VF only.

@hfjacinto... Nice set of IHC's... They look great in an album. Good luck with the Flying Eagle cents.... They are special. Cheers, RickO

Nice collection and congrats on being an IHC collector. Spent 50 years enjoying the series and the only regret is that I didn't have a copy of Rick Snow's book in 1960. lol
I love both FE and IHC coins and especially their coloring as they age. welcome to the hobby, looks like you are doing a great job.

The last of the Flying Eagles. This was one of the first slabbed coins I ever picked up.

Well the above isn't actually true. Since I liked Flying Eagles, I once needed an extra coin to submit as Anacs was having a special and I was short a coin, I knew it was cleaned, but since it was "old" I was hoping it would be market acceptable. But no it wasn't, so I do have a details coin in my collection (well I have a few, but this one is slabbed). The thing is , I can't seem to sell it or give it to someone as I really like Flying Eagles. There are times I'm at the dealer and want to get a few raw ones, but I stick to what I come to purchase.
