It’s just a sign of the times.
Many people have declined mentally ,are more closed minded, greedy, selfish and outright lazy.
Some may indeed have “Covid fog” (lol) though this is no joke.
Far too many don’t even possess the most rudimentary skills to perform intelligent research- in a time when the tools for such are more widely available than ever. The “noise” has muddied the resources and many don’t have the wherewithal to separate the noise from what’s true and real. Others just don’t believe anything anymore and wall themselves off in that mindset- thus becoming stubborn in their delusions.
I blame the internet and social media for some of this, but that’s just one factor. I believe it’s shortened peoples attention spans and magnified their own echo chambers of personal belief systems- no matter how warped those may be.
There I go getting philosophical again….
Just kick me down the road!

Tough read. I hate newbies as well. You ought to reread what you said you contradict yourself & you make it sound like the world stop progressing oh jeez stop.
I digress, I don't know you. I read what you wrote & It's almost scripted. The script being your actual real life.Kind of like NPC person. I'm serious. Not trolling. reading that I felt your pain. Damn. What a horrible way to live life with that Perception. with that thought process.

Thank you for that kick down the road and your feedback. I appreciate it actually.
I don’t hate new collectors at all and am very much in favor of encouraging them and personally- I’ve been gentle with them here.

My observations and generalizations are not universal but I stand by them.
I’ve been around a long time and witnessed a lot. When I said I believe attention spans have shortened over time, I include my own in that observation. I’ve noticed it first hand.
The quality of journalism, media and news bites confirm this. I stand by my critical view of social media. But this isn’t the place to discuss that.

When I said that many folks ability to do solid research has diminished over time, I am not painting everyone with that brush, but I have seen enough of that to think it is a problem for many including some members of my own family- so this hits pretty close to home.

I am perhaps a bit jaded.
Sorry if that was a downer for you.
I appreciate your observations though. Thank you. I need reminders to reel it in occasionally.
I’m actually a pretty happy guy!
I’d likely be a lot happier if I warmly embraced social media. I actually did early on, and had high hopes that it would be a great equalizer. But bots and misinformation spoiled those hopes.

I’m all in for chasing your dreams, having fun with collecting and seeking out knowledge.

And you’re correct in that there’s no turning back the clock now so we all continue to fix what’s wrong and just make the best of it :-)

Some people would rather be 'told' information than research it themselves. I've been lurking a year or so and am very much a researcher but not everyone is. Overall people need to 'read the room' but that is true in everything. Hope to meet some of you in person at Summer Seminar!

    So true!
    Welcome to the forum!
And a warm welcome to @ColdSummer310 as well!

I joined this forum about a year ago and have been quite impressed with the level of knowledge and helpfulness of many members. I try to only make threads here when I've hit a dead end in my own personal research. Thus far this has served me well. I've had a handful of (to me) difficult questions answered here. This place is what you make of it though if you are truly interested in learning and seeing some very cool coins you'll try to act respectfully. Thanks all.

Imbeciles? They're out there in huge numbers

This insightful comment from a member who believes his collection has a value of $2million. I don't think that kind of comment is helpful.

Having money doesn't mean you are at all insightful...or nice.

I wonder what percentage of these ' newbies' are just banned members coming back for their idea of fun.

Newly registered with a new cell phone and email, big pictures and never return after the first post. Sad part is unfortunately they reproduce.

    Have a nice day

You ought to see the troop ATS. You can get all sorts of new, unlisted, email addresses and there are a ton of ways out the to hide or confuse your ISP. Yesterday the place ceased to be a coin forum and became a chat room; complete with bad language. :(

I think it is actually a lack of patience by people who think they are the smartest person in the room.

show a coin (or sport card, toy, collectible, etc...) that a huge number of people have in the picture and say it'll make you rich, and then tons of ignorant people click on their click bait because they have one and think they're going to be rich and the poster gets the advertising revenue from all the people visiting their page. Sketchy, but lucrative.

Then coin dealers and forums like this get to deal with all of these people who've seen it and think they really have something. Such fun....
