Error Copper Cents/Penny

I have about $350.00 worth of copper cents me & my Grandson 4 yrs old at the time around 2009 were searching boxes for coppers didn't look for errors just copper dates. Anyhow I just started separating them by year "not looking for errors" wouldn't even know what an error would look like. But I came across this 1964 that just didn't look right just wandering if this is what you would call an error? Also found one that was smooth on both sides the diameter was a little smaller than the other cents, what would that be called?

It looks as though the 1964 Cent was struck slightly off-center. The other coin appears to be an un-struck planchet, but there looks to be surface corrosion... hope this helps.

I agree with the above. No significant numismatic premiums. I would keep the blank planchet as a curiosity.... I have one myself I found years ago. Cheers, RickO

Agree with the above two posts. Misaligned die, because only one side is slightly off. The obverse die was not aligned properly.

If both sides has this look, then it would be an offcenter, with the dies being set up properly but the planchet not seated properly in the collar.

For such a minor misalignment there is no value but it is a good reference coin.

The blank planchet has sewn better days but it is a neat find. I've never found one after searching a few 100,000 coins.

BTW, this is a great post from a newer collector with potential errors - intelligent questions about real anomalies.

The 1964 is a minor misaligned die. For it to have any real value, part of the design should have spilled off the edge. This one does not show that. The other one is an unstruck type 2 planchet, but it appears to be damaged, so not a lot of value here as well. Sorry.
