Horrible Grades

Historically I have been a vintage guy and prior to this submission I had submitted less than 100 cards to PSA. Of those cards I submitted in the past, 8 would fall into the modern category and I got four 10s and four 9s. Even with the small sample size I thought I had a good idea what modern 9s and 10s were. Apparently not! I got sucked into the hype in early 2021 and submitted about 170 junk wax era cards. After 13-14 months I just got 73 back in the mail today and got hammered on the grades. I'm not looking forward to getting the other cards back. I'm getting out of the grading game and will keep my day job:

I'm very sorry! It use to be different! Because I know if anyone is sending that amount of cards .... They know what a supposed 9 looks like .. maybe a 10. I say stay away from vintage until that pans out.

Thanks. This was very nostalgic submission. All cards from when I collected in the 80s.

The major grading companies are tough on 87 topps baseball.

    Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!

    Ignore list -Basebal21

LOL!! I'd wait until the economic depression is over. Lol, it's coming and we won't worry about grades here soon. But in a good way ... It'll be a brand new start with lower prices I believe. Recessions USUALLY get companies back down to Earth

1987 Topps from what ive subbed, can be wonkey. similar to 1985 topps, there could be alot of bumps in the card stock that can hinder higher grades.

that being said, alot of people are being 9'ed to death on alot of subs, myself included. I just purchased a card that is a PSA 8 that the original seller said was a BGS 9 crackout and I can't find anything wrong with it at all that would make it even a 9, let alone an 8.

Yeah, I've said that line many times before. PSA just keeps taking my money, though!

I did the same years ago. Got tired of hearing "Oh, you got the grader of death" or "Just crack and re-sub". Sorry about your results - that must have cost a bundle to get that many cards graded.

I see I’m not the only one who has had bad results with the 86 fleer basketball stickers. A reputable dealer recently told me that he finds it hard to predict the grades for those cards in particular lately.

Yeah, no way I'll ever crack and resub any of these. I have my fingers crossed that my next order isn't as bad.

I submitted right before the shut down and I think they were $12 per card.

I did the same thing you did by submitting cards I wouldn't have normally considered before. The sad thing is that even if I got better grades with these it took so long to get them back that the market came way down. Oh well!

No offense intended, but that's a pretty common result for someone who has only submitted eight cards before.

I would like to see some scans of some of these cards...I would bet anything the centering is what got a majority of the cards, especially the '87 Topps

No offense taken, but I have only submitted 8 cards that fall into the modern category (four 10s and four 9s). Submitted around 100 vintage cards. Not a big submitter, but have been in the hobby for over a decade and have owned around 1,000 PSA graded cards so I'm not a complete novice. Pretty sure if we were back in 2015 and I was willing to crack and re-sub these cards the results might be different.
