The worst eBay bidder ever!!

So this guy won 3 of my auctions and has yet to pay, then I started looking through his 100% feedback. Honestly how he still allowed on eBay. This costs so many sellers so much time and lost revenue.
Ohh and I'd block him if I were you.

You should contact eBay CS about this... perhaps they will NARU him if it's brought to their attention.

Sadly there are lots of non-paying bidders and ebay won't do anything about them. The odd thing here is how many negative remarks he has accrued from sellers. They are actually violations though they are clearly well-deserved.
This buyer can't leave NFB when he hasn't paid, right?
Duly blocked. Thanks. This is the product of the "new eBay", where sellers have virtually no voice- and also it proves that FB means nothing to buyers, because sellers can only leave a positive or nothing at all. You were lucky that eBay hadn't yet removed all the soft positives, which is something they normally do.

Note that he's been at this for a while...
Item information is not available for the following items because the feedback is over 5 years old.
link to report a buyer to ebay
I'm not saying he's a good buyer, but that doesn't even come close to being the worst ever.
Agreed.
I just recently had someone buy a coin in November. He received it in November. In March, he filed a chargeback with his credit card company. Last week, the credit card company ruled in my favor.
Not once in that whole time did he contact me, ask for a refund, offer to return the coin...nothing.
I don't mind non-payers. You block, relist and move on.
I also recently (4/10) had a buyer buy a $500 coin set. 4 days letter, he contacted me and filed a return and told me that he wasn't getting a tax refund but a bill. As a result, he couldn't justify the expense. I told him no problem. Instead of returning the coin, he refused delivery. As a result, the coin was returned to me but USPS doesn't track the return journey.
3 days later, he filed a chargeback on his credit card because he hadn't been paid. I responded to the chargeback with the tracking which showed refusal by him and no receipt by me. At that point, eBay closed the return because of the chargeback.
Last week, he contacted me to tell me that the credit card company refused his chargeback because I hadn't received the item as of 4/30. He told me eBay was no help. I told him that the transaction belonged to his credit card company and not eBay anymore. I explained to him that's why I had instructed him to handle the return through eBay rather than the way he did it. I told him that since 4/30 I had received the coin back and have his credit card company contact me. The case is still open...
So, give me a non-payer any day! There's no frozen funds, coins in the mail, delays of weeks before you can relist, etc.
If I have a non-payer, I simply cancel the transaction after the 5 days, block them, and relist. No muss, no fuss!
Due to that cc stuff and other reasons - I won’t list anything over $500 on the bay. Higher $ matl do at shows for cash money ebay fees would eatup up my narrow margin on that higher ticket stuff.
Lots of scammers on the bay. I blocked a return bc it was never returned although the buyer said it was. A $175 item they did not return it in my 2wk return period. During that eBay froze my acct (a real nightmare) thank gosh I don’t offer 30 da. eBay ruled in my favor the person continued to bother me - kept insisting returned it but no tracking. After another month they gave up. I told them “no refund as ebay decided this” when they pushed me to “arrive at an agreement” Never did receive the item back. They will BS / lie anyway they can. They are trash. Don’t give them an inch. Sometimes see them at shows try argue about price “dealer A has it for x.” Just tell them “go buy his then.” Then go over to his table c if he really giving it away for that. It’s never there…..lol.
Ebay needs a "If you don't pay, you don't play" policy. Something like a 3 strikes and you're out doctrine. Simply close the bidders account if they don't pay, say three times within a certain period of time . Ebay needs to allow sellers to use negative feedback to punish non-payers. The simple threat of your account being closed and having to restart with zero feedback and a new name could be a deterrent to bid and don't pay.
They scrutinize their sellers and create tons of rules. Buyers should be as vetted. A contractual obligation ain't what it used to be...with lopsided regulations.
I have a problem Canuck on the line 😣
$20 coin and paid $14 shipping. I get a message my pictures were deceptive. He sends a picture of a coin that is obviously not the coin I sold him and might be worth 50 cents. The funny part is it’s in an old cardboard 2x2 and has obviously been in there awhile. I shipped my coin in a safe flip.
He’s trying to get me to refund(how much I don’t know) and just waiting on the feedback extortion punchline.
Well, at least you can block buyers with certain amounts of NPB strikes.
The best you can do is block buyers with 2 NPB strikes in 12 months. Better than nothing, though.
You can block any buyer, NPB strikes or no NPB strikes.
Blocked
Ebay is very loath to do anything that might cost them dollars, sellers are on their own.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't no optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
If you know their id, yeah. Do you know the id of everybody on eBay? I don't.
You can’t block them before you know who they are. I had one guy create at least 13 different accounts over the span of a few years. He’d win a few items, not pay, and later pop up with a new account. No way to get ahead of it. And that’s just one example in my problem buyer hall of fame.
Yes, this was my point, also.
Oh boy, he bought something from me last week and has not paid yet.
I'm going to call and report him I suggest you do the same
Definitely a major problem.
Back when ebay let you ship before payment I trusted a buyer based on their feedback then regretted it when he didn't pay making all types of excuses, disabled veteran, he an his wife were good christians, etc.. He sent me a bad check that our local cops were able to issue an arrest warrant on--and he finally paid....
Oh, unfortunately they can get worse. I had one buyer, who was also a seller buy a bunch from me. They actually paid. However, they submitted a return request as Not As Described (while still in transit to them) which was honored by eBay without even considering the nonsense of it. Turned out the buyer had listed nearly identical coins and just wanted mine out of the way. Cost me two-way shipping (I shipped out USPS Express to be nice too) plus shipping materials, lost exposure time on eBay, all so she could sell hers higher than my asking prices. I never bothered relisting them. Think I will just try to sell out my posters, records, etc and sell coins at shows. Screw eBay and whatever it rode in on. Oh, these were 2021-CC Morgans in PCGS MS70 First Strike holders with COAs. It is pretty much impossible to misrepresent them. There are other stories too.
Here is one to really look out for. I listed a bunch of certified coins for 99c start with no reserve. They bid up over the week. In the last hour or so, I forget exactly when, all of the bids dropped to 99c and there was no bidding history. I talked with eBay and what happened was there were new accounts that bid it up but those accounts were deleted on the last day. The way eBay works is if one voluntarily deletes their account or eBay terminates it, all bidding history is deleted. So, these lots sold for around a buck each. Potential bidders had probably already bypassed them because the bidding was so high already until it was too late. I think the highest one was a certified 1966 SMS dime in 68DCAM CAC that sold for $6.60 including shipping. Silver dollars sold for less than face, much less than melt of course. I told the eBay representative that I would never ruin a coin auction on their platform again, despite having done so since 1995 and would tell others what the deal was.
Are you out fees if he doesn't complete the sale?
This is a two can play at this game scenario if I’ve ever seen one 😈
Not one cent.
Disagree. Your time has value.

Thanks for sharing this experience...we need fo help protect each other by sharing these kind of experiences...
Personally, I wish there was a way to block any buyer who posts a negative review of a seller --> negative reviews hurt us so much, I feel like it's a sign the person didn't make an attempt to work things out with the seller --
We should start a 'eBay horror stories' thread, which includes links to the names, then people can read through and make their own conclusion whether or not to block the person or not,
but after reviewing some of the stories above, I wish you guys had included links to names because these are people I'd like to block...
You must READ the question to understand the answer. The question was "fees". You are not out even one cent in fees.
As for time, how long did it take you to click the 3 buttons or takes to relist the item? 5 seconds? How much is 5 seconds of your time worth? If your time is worth $1000 per hour, that is 30 cents of your time.
They had that in the early 2000's
Yes, negative reviews can hurt sellers, but sometimes they’re more than justified and occur after a buyer has made an attempt to work things out.
Whenever only one side of a story is given, it’s usually not the whole story. So readers who can reach their own conclusions, can easily reach the wrong ones.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
Yes, a negative feedback can hurt a seller. But if I'm looking at an auction and a seller has a few negatives I'll take the time to read them and judge for myself. When a seller responds to a nonsense negative saying the buyer never contacted them and they would have refunded quickly, I usually believe them and bid away and have had no issues in the past.
Lecture appreciated but I know how to read, thanks.
Even if you're not out on fees, your time and effort have essentially been wasted when there are others who could have bought the item while it was tied up with a bunch of nonsense. Also it has been my experience that relisted auction items can get a stigma of sorts...perhaps there's something wrong with it, overgraded, etc. and may not bring as much on the relist.

I was a Buyer; only a buyer. 548 Positives 0 Neutrals 0 Negatives. I have bought from Sellers with 1 or 2 Negs and the transactions always worked. A year ago eBay kicked me to the curb. One day I tried to log on and couldn't. Called CS and was told my EMail address was not valid. It was an old one and yes, I should have put my new one in. I asked for their help and was told there was nothing that could be done and that the account was closed. I also was told I could open a new account and start over. I never returned an item and ALWAYS left the seller glowing feedback. I have never gone back except to check what items were selling for. So, even Buyers get a bad deal.
Hey, I'm not saying I like non-paying bidders. But on the list of buyer issues, it is very very very low.
I agree that the fees net to zero, but a different thought on time. I list only auctions, they're all consigned, and they always end on Sunday evenings. A buyer backing out of a sale isn't as simple as hitting the relist button, and depending on how how long after the item ends the buyer does it, it can push off a relist (and my consignor getting paid) by multiple weeks depending on my schedule since I don't have items close every week. And it requires more work on my end when I'm doing my bookkeeping. Are there worse things in life? Sure. But it's definitely more of a hassle than 5 seconds.
To be fair, this is GOOD WORK by eBay. While you may not have been trying to scam anyone, I think you can see the problem if people were using accounts that had either fake email addresses, fake postal addresses, fake PayPal accounts, etc.
But that "hassle" doesn't (necessarily) translate into money.
It only doesn't translate to money because I don't pay myself or someone else an hourly rate to do it. But if I earn the same amount (or less) whether or not I do all this extra work, then the effective amount I earn per unit time is lower, and there's an opportunity cost where I could use that time to do something else to make money, or just to enjoy the time (which itself has value). My time isn't free even if I'm not technically on the clock and receiving direct compensation for my time.
But, you can't get paid for the time that the auction isn't running. So that hourly rate still boils down to the 5 seconds it takes to relist the item. Your employer doesn't pay you for the time you are sleeping between when you started the project yesterday and finished it today.
Yes there may be an opportunity cost, especially for an expensive item.
But, off the top of my head, I can think of 5 worse buyer sins than simply not paying.
THANK YOU. At least someone here gets it.
RIP Mom- 1932-2012
I understand the hassle. But you are, in my opinion, overstating the financial cost. A week of doing nothing isn't lost compensation. It's, at most, delayed compensation. The actual financial cost of a week or two of opportunity costs is pretty small as is the financial cost of the 5 seconds it takes to relist it, whenever you get around to it.
Let's say that you delay the sale of a $10,000 coin by two weeks. The opportunity cost of that sale is on the order of $38, assuming a 10% ROI.
You missed all of my other points. It takes me more time to bookkeep. It takes me more time to keep track of the item and ensure it gets scheduled properly. It takes me more time to communicate with my consignor why (part of) their check will be late. And while there's no cost to the downtime while the item isn't active, the longer it takes for it to be sold and shipped, the more I have to deal with all of the previously mentioned hassles, all of which take actual time.
My employer doesn't pay me for the time I sleep between starting the project one day and finishing the next day, but what if I got pulled off the project on the second day, and was then told to finish it a week later? You better believe I'm getting paid for the time it takes me to remember what I did and pick up where I left off.
@jmlanzaf will argue with you til you give up! Since his time is so cheap maybe we can hire him on the side for a buck an hour!
Except Yahoo.com had discontinued, without informing any clients, that type of email address two years prior to this. It was good enough for eBay for all that time. And aside from not giving me any help or information it was hit the curb. And that sir; is just fine with me. I see something on eBay I might want I see if the seller has a website and go there. Not a problem to circumvent eBay.
So what about the other 99% of sellers who don't have a dedicated website? By ignoring most of ebay you are severely limiting your buying pool.

Takes 2 to argue. Why an I getting all the credit?
Only when it comes to items that are not coin related.* I'm sorry for the way things turned out BUT....it isn't the same pre-COVID customer service. They couldn't care less that I'm gone and that's okay. I've dealt with attitude all my life.
Because we like you so much.
He did the same thing to me with 2-3 auctions. I reported him to ebay and they didn't do a thing and I'd expect they just keep on letting him do it.
