My 1917 Moonlight Mint Peace dollar

I've seen a few of these, and the high-grade examples are spectacular looking. They do offer a slightly lustrous yet matte appearance. It is hard to describe. I hadn't seen one with blazing luster until the other day. I was visiting a coin shop with a bidboard, and it offered the following Moonlight Mint Peace dollar (for about 5X's spot).
I picked it up, and under the lights do see strong luster- more substantial than I've seen otherwise.
Here is the Moonlight Mint photo of this type:
Here is the example I picked up:

Amazing coin. I still need to track down a few dates and this is one of them.

I like mine as well
@braddick .... That is indeed an excellent specimen. Thanks for showing us with those excellent pictures. Cheers, RickO
That’s a great looking example of that coin. Thanks for posting. TC
I have a pair of this issue and on mine one can really see the polish lines or lathe marks. Perhaps yours was struck toward the end of the production run and mine near the beginning. Here are images of one of the pair-

Sweet looking coin!

The surface finish on these did vary somewhat as issued.
The one pictured looks burnished after over-striking. If it is, it is likely that it was done after I parted with it.
Regardless, a great buy at 5x "spot".
The type of luster - vitreous rather than satiny looks like it was an early strike before the die wore a bit and was broken in.
All of D Carr’s high relief Peace Dollars are spectacular. I think the 1917 was the first of them issued.

Nice pickup!
When you bought it, did you know that the Reverse side features twice the relief of the USMint's 1921 high relief peace dollar?

Did you also notice that your 1917 features the original "Broken Sword" design?
That broken sword element was removed from the final design that appears on all USMint Peace dollars...
And there's a VERY cool backstory:
