Would You Buy A Beautifully NT Coin If It Is Damaged?

Would toning over rule the coins condition?

Would toning over rule the coins condition?

No... Damage, for me, usually eliminates a coin for consideration. An exception might be an artistic love token with a hole.... However, for my collection coins, no damage - and no tarnish. Cheers, RickO
I consider a scratch damage but many of the coins get a free pass with the services. I’ll answer your question with two more questions: Is there a reasonable shot it may some day end up straight graded? Can I buy the piece very cheaply and flip it for a nice profit?
How bad is the damage and how cheap is the coin? Show me the coin and the price and then I'll be able to decide if I want to buy it.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I would pass. I prefer problem free coins with honest wear for the grade..
A damaged coin would make me regret the acquisition every time I looked at it.
That being said, I do have various damaged coins in my collection rhat I acquired many years ago,
So you're saying NT or AT is damage?? Forget it, don't answer that. Forget I asked that question! 🤣 😂

I would if the price was within reason (meaning it still had a premium for the color but not as high as if it were straight graded).
Yes... for me the real question would be whether or not I would buy a beautifully damaged coin if it was AT 🤔
I would not buy it, because to me, the damage becomes the focal point and I would not be able to look beyond that.
No 👎
I wouldn’t but there are quite a few people who have the “skill” to get a damaged coin into a straight graded color. It’s not my thing.
I bought a holed 1815 half once-upon-a-time. It also had beautiful peripheral toning.
I consigned it to another dealer. When it came back, most of the toning was gone.
Two examples of damaged NT coins I would break the bank for if ever offered to me 😅
No, for myself 100% no, but I know that there are buyers for this material.

It really depends on the coin and the damage. Some of them can always fill a folder hole.

What @bsshog40 said. I've posted the picture below before, but for $30 this was an easy yes. The coin is as pretty in hand as it is in the pics.
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

Id buy one like this all the time. Where is the damage: It appears so small and the toning is the focal point anyway!
On the right shoulder. It's there, a small scuff. Maybe one day I'll resubmit.
