Nice raw coin I submitted from a bank roll

Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

A recent submission came back (had several submissions in the same box and most are coming back now) I personally thought this 35P would grade higher - or I might not have sent it in. With only one exception, we have been disappointed with most of the grades - but I’m overall good with the results and several are very nice coins - so we won some / lost some - it’s all good!
Is this maybe a cac candidate?

What would be your reasoning for the green bean? Do you feel it would get a gold bean? You are probably already near the coins value in your cost and if not would it be worth another fee + S/H both ways to try? Just curious as to your motive for CAC, especially with the carbon spot.

do you have a picture of the bank roll?

Looks fairly graded and I do not think it will garner a bean..... Cheers, RickO

Hopefully it wasn't this one, somehow hundreds of coins have come out of it.

Ha ha I recognize that one. Unlike those coins, this one did straight grade!

    What it a “carbon spot”?
The reason I make the comments regarding the cac is that I own another PCGS graded 35p that is a 64+ ... and it has much more chatter than this one - although last night under heavy light I did see that the 64+ has a different / more robust luster “look” to it - so maybe that is the difference.

Can we see the 64+ coin?

The black spot at the end of Liberty's Tiara.

I would not send it to CAC unless it piggybacks other coins in a submission

First thing I noticed was the spot

Did you buy the whole roll? If so, what were the rest of the coins like?

  • Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

Whoa lots of questions - but it can answer all of them!
    First, the 35P i mentioned:

  • Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

I did buy the whole roll - and only a few looked like they would be worth grading - despite that, none graded higher than this one. I had another roll that had a 84 CC that graded MS64 - you can see that coin on another post.

  • Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

You can see that the 35P above has more chatter than the MS62 example

So hard to tell with my photos - I’m probably wasting my time (and yours) - so sorry about that.
I just felt like the coin was undergraded - the experts here have convinced me I’m wrong - which is great. That’s why I post here - to LEARN!!

  • Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

Closer look at said “carbon spot” - believe it or not that looks like a piece of dirt stuck inside the capsule!!!
Just had a close look - looks like a piece of debris - good grief what can I do about that?

  • Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

Again - posters that are determined to tell me how stupid I am are not necessary- I already know how stupid I am - no need to waste your time. And I come here to LEARN - not to teach so pipe down and let us less knowledgeable folks have a chance to learn from the experts -
Just a proactive note before they come to ridicule me ...

The MS64+ example looks much better than the MS62. The latter has marks on Liberty’s jaw and neck, the obverse spot that’s already been mentioned and marks all over the eagle. It would be a waste of money to submit it to CAC.

Unless or until you learn how to grade, you’re going to continue to be surprised and/or disappointed with grading results. If possible, you should find someone to screen potential submissions for you.

My guess is that there might be a tiny piece of debris and that a spot formed around it.

Your 64+ has a stronger strike - compare the hair detail over the ear on obverse and feathers on eagle leg.

There are areas on each coin that are 3-5 times more important for distracting marks and nicks - the lower jaw and cheek are important in Peace dollars.
