I have a 2001 Kennedy half dollar that has an S, lying on its side right on top of Kennedy's nose.
I'm wondering if it's a new error or some one tampered w it after mint. Hope someone can help.

Since the coin is dated 2001, it couldn't possibly be a new error. It might or might not be a 21-year-old error.
Beyond that, nobody can say anything without pictures.
More than likely PMD unless the "S" is the exact size and font of the "S" in "TRUST".
.
man those dropped letter errors are TOUGH!

If the letter is stamped into the coin (look for corresponding damage on the reverse) then it is a counterstamp.
Why we use dremels, we need pics 📸
@Annama1... Welcome aboard. We will need pictures to properly assess your coin. Cheers, RickO
