It looks all wrong to me, but I am not well versed on the merc dime so...
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Was that in a raymond-Waite album? Its just a wild guess here
I vote added D as the mintmark appears to be a bit too high and away from the rim.

OK the photos are really small, but it could be Die 3 and if the vertical axis was maintained when the coin was flipped to show the rev the die rotation looks about right. I would be more confident if there was a closeup of the mm area.
Okay,
Sorry about the photo's, before I realized that I might want to show this for educational purposes, I had given him the coins back yesterday. Wish I would have taken a closer photo of the MM. I used the pics he originally sent me when he purchased the group to post here. The MM was added which I was pretty confident it had been, the big tell tale sign to me was the inner shape of the mintmark was incorrect, and just looked off.
If I can get a close up pic from him of MM, Ill try and post it later.
Maybe it’s the toning or lighting, not sure but it looks odd on the obverse, but an interesting odd. I will speculate that it is not authentic since this is an educational post. If I am wrong I will learn something new. Win-win.
Thanks for making these kind of posts.

I was leery of the mm in the first picture, but wanted another close up. Since you confirmed added mm, then my suspicions were justified. Cheers, RickO
