I sold an acid dated one a few years back for $650. Yours is better.
A "fun find" indeed!

Now that find is the result of knowledge, perseverance, and some luck.
There are surely more stuff like that hiding in plain sight.
Can anybody say "1919-P DDO?"
I think I don't see why you're calling it a details coin. What am I missing? I could see that in a straight-graded AG or maybe G holder. Fantastic!
You suck! That's what, a $2000-3000 find?
I can definitely imagine how you reacted. I was once looking through bulk Wheat cents that I had purchased for 3x face and pulled out a 1909-S VDB, and it was only a damaged/gouged VF. Your find is several times better!
"You can't get just one gun." "You can't get just one tattoo." "You can't get just one 1796 Draped Bust Large Cent."
Can't even imagine how how pockets that coin has been in in over 106 years and nobody saw it. Crazy

I suggest that you get it professionally conserved to get rid of the black spots and then get it slabbed. I'm not convinced it would details grade once it's been conserved but even with a details grade, that's a valuable coin.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

It's actually a VG. On Buffalo nickels, if you can see a "partial date", that qualifies for VG.
Plus it meets other grade requirements, like LIBERTY almost separated from the rim, and a partial horn.
PCGS Price Guide for the 1916 DDO in a PCGS VG-8 slab is $8000.
And seeing the dramatic overdate detail on the 6 makes it much more desirable to collectors.
On the G examples, the date is flat and you can only see the doubling in the ribbon thickness and on the feathers.
Great find. I bet you fell out of your chair when you 1st saw it. Big dollar coin there.

Outstanding find!! Wow... Just one more event to show us all that little treasures are still out there. Cheers, RickO
It was definatly a "is this what I think it is" moment
HAPPY COLLECTING
awsome find
and with a little conservation probably straight gradeable
Super find, congrats!

Very cool coin.

it is tough to tell from those images but buffs/vnicks/shield nickels are rather susceptible to corrosion, especially in lower grades like that and it really looks like corrosion and if it is, has probably eaten into the surfaces. i am taking the op at their word at having looked through and probably graded dozens/hundreds of coins and knows a details coin when they see one BUT having said that, there is a chance that is not the case here. i didn't take the time to blow up and enhance the images; just took the find at its amazing face value.

Great find. I've looked, but never found one.
Agree that is corrosion. Still a hell of a find.

Seriously, congrats. I agree with some of the others - could straight grade. Sent it to PCGS or NGC. I’d estimate $4,000
I believe it's definitely corrosion unfortunately
HAPPY COLLECTING

WOWEEEEEEEEE!! You cannot find a better, cooler or more valuable nickel!! I once sold big lots of dateless buffalos for my dad that we found coin roll hunting in the 1960's. i wish I had nick-a-dated them first. That is a super find and an instant sale or just keeping for you collection. And yes, you do win the YOU-SUCK award!! (We are all just so jealous! OOOH)
Super find now that's a real "Buffalo Nickel"
Holy Crap! Congrats!
