Best place to sell

This is my first post ever so if I am posting in the wrong area, please let me know. I have some duplicate coins, not a lot, but I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the best way to sell coins, less than 10 and all under $50. I am just a hobby collector and have never sold coins that I can recall.

You can list them here on the BST (buy, sell, trade) section of this forum, ebay is another option, and I have heard some have success selling on CollectiveCoin.

    Depends on what they are.

If low value and ungraded AND you have patience, try listing free locally on Craigslist. If you don't mind fees and have some of value look into Ebay and Great Collections.

I've had less than stellar success on Craigslist trying to sell other items... furniture mostly. It seems the scammers trying to get my cellphone number to market cr@p to me are more prevalent there. I've done FB Marketplace with better success.

Ebay does have fees but you'd likely realize more cash there in the long run. I'd also suggest our BST but you might have to wait a couple of days before you can upload image files....

If your coins have values of less that $50 each expect to be disappointed. You may be best just to take them to a local show or dealer and sell them for whatever you can get. With the cost of everything today (gas, shipping, etc.) you will find the cost of selling to be a significant drain on realizations.

Your best bet may likely be to simply take them to a local dealer and sell them all at once. They read as though they are super common and between the costs of shipping (not trivial as a percentage on low value coins) and opportunity costs for your time you may very well net more with a loss to a dealer than with multiple losses online.

Craigslist is where the patience is required. Between length of time to sell and those inquiring.
Sincere question for you though on FB Marketplace. I tried it a couple of times FB kept deleting my listings for coins. How were you able to get around that? Or do they allow coins now? Thx!

Ah! I've never sold coins on FB Marketplace... only other items. I just seemed to get less of the riffraff on FB than on Craigslist. I was not aware that there were issues selling coins on FB... thanks for the heads up!

  • Thanks all for your advice. I may just try the BST on here first. They are nice coins. I rarely buy if I don't get a stellar price so I may be all right, unless I go to a dealer.

"Nice coins" doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as "coins that someone else is willing to buy". I predict disappointment.

Try looking on eBay for completed sale listings of similar items, to see if your price estimates are in line with what others are willing to pay. Example

If they are truly nice coins, you might be better with a dealer. No transaction cost, shipping cost or risk.

My experience is that most dealers don't like to deal in modern widgets.

  • I really sucks to be newer at something. You try to ask of those who have more knowledge. Sometimes you get really helpful answers and sometimes you get answers that make you ask why the poster felt the need.

Don’t worry, if you ever show up on my board where I am subject matter expert, regardless of your experience you will always get a courteous answer.

    Have a wonderful weekend all.

I think you received fairly helpful advice overall.

Ebay will always have the most eyes on it but can be a hassle. BST here is a good option. Easiest way IMO would be to price in groups or the whole lot as one.
