1837 C. D. Peacock Jeweler, Chicago, Illinois, HT-M21 / LOW 367A, 30.6mm Diameter, Copper, Rarity-2

Although dated 1837 this is a fantasy hard times token issue with the date actually representing the establishment of C.D. Peacock Jewelers. They had these advertising merchant store cards struck by Gorham Manufacturing Company in 1902. The HT-M21 unlike the HT-M19 has a larger bodied peacock with the date moved outside the center circle off the peacock's chest closer to the lower rims. The reverse "Time Is Money" design was borrowed from the 1837 Smith's Clock Establishment, New York, NY, hard times tokens.

This example is ex: Steve Tanenbaum and finally completes my copper C.D. Peacock set. I've been searching for over a decade for an example of this variety this red with no surface issues or distractions. Usually only seen in brown and just glancing although PCGS has graded 3 in BN they have not designated any as RB.

Very nice piece.... @Broadstruck... Is the 'fading' of the feathers on the right (as viewed) due to strike? Cheers, RickO

The peacock design is not straight on as feathers are more pronounced on the left side. It's facing right and the feathers on the left are projected a just touch further forward.

Edited to add: If you look at the center veining of the feathers lowest to the body on each side both are well pronounced. Yet on the left side only the feather veining of the four that follow beyond that first are.

@Broadstruck.... Thanks, that makes sense. I did not consider positional angle of the Peacock. Cheers, RickO

I only recall JA having had a BN HT-M21 although he did have RB examples of HT-M19, and HT-M23 varieties.

1974 Assay Commission Fredric G. Mantei New York

    .
Pretty interesting to me as I've never encountered an Assay Commission Merchant Token from the 70's
"The 1974 Commission members, who serve without compensation, will test a
reserved selection of 1973 coins produced at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints
and the San Francisco Assay Office for content and weight to determine whether
the coins have been struck in accordance with weight and metal provisions of
the law. They will report their findings to the President"

    Copper it is!
Just found two first year Copper Lincolns
in three rolls, while searching a bank box.
    Plus, they're the VDB 1909's!
    2 of them.
The condition of these are fantastic too.
