I love the 81 set. It may be my personal favorite Topps issue from the 80s even though every photo looks too dark like they were all shot at night without lights. Lots of nice portrait photos.

  • RidethelightningRidethelightning Posts: 398 ✭✭✭

it was weird, I honestly could not get myself to tear the wrapping off last night.

  • RidethelightningRidethelightning Posts: 398 ✭✭✭

Gonzo ! :) It's just the 1981 stuff. It's toast. One more 42 year old 1981 FASC Cello box BBCE wrapped 10 years ago is history :)
Would anyone want all the commons and off centers stars I am about to receive ?

BooYah - it's fun ripping this stuff. Change of heart. Miller Lite demanded it !

Hard to tell the corner situations, but the centering doesn't seem horrible.

The Murray looks great. I can't tell how many Schmidts I have that are off-center. I'm not sure I've ever had one that is well-centered.

    Awesome thread!

And I would be interested in the cards you don’t want at the right price along with the box.

My Ride the Lightning tape was the most used one in my collection. It’s durability is the stuff of legend.

    I ripped 3 boxes of 1989 Fleer.
Got a Griffey and a Randy Johnson in each box. Every Griffey pack had a Puckett in it.
    Also got one of these;

2013,14 and 15 Certificate Award Winner Harmon Killebrew Master Set and Master Topps Set

Pack 19 was a beast! Nolan, Reggie and Ozzie all in one pack. Thanks for sharing the rip 🙂

I'm not a hockey guy, but ripped a $5 box of 91 Stadium Club.
No inserts to chase and no rookies that I know of, but lots of HOFers.
    Got 3 Lemieux's, a couple of Federov's, Hull's and Bourque's, and a Gretzky to name a few. No Jagr.
Card were pretty stuck together. Not quite bricks yet. Edges were chipping and flaking.
Hard to gauge centering. Going to check later under loupe to see if I can cherry pick any really good ones.

  • RonSportscardsRonSportscards Posts: 942 ✭✭✭✭✭

Also ripped a box of '82 Topps Baseball Stickers.
    500 stickers.100 packs of 5/per pack.
All of the foiled All Stars had issues. Roller scratches, dinged edges, bent corners.
Most all of the stickers are either tilted, off center, or not cut square.
Tough to find a really good example, but finding one makes it extra sweet.

  • BBBrkrrBBBrkrr Posts: 1,264 ✭✭✭✭✭

Man, I loved those stickers back in the day. They were the coolest.

Lost the pics of one of the packs so that's it. .. mixed the cards up so no way to clarify easily which ones.

    .

IF !! grading wasn't 19 bucks or whatever, these would be going in for grading. Maybe massive Miller Lite will assist in sending in at that price.

I find it hard to believe that some packs just had all regular cards in them, no leaders, no record breakers, no 3 player rookies, no team cards, no checklists, no playoffs. Packs 5 & 7 didn't even have an all-star card to break up the pack. I guess it is just a statistical anomaly. Love seeing the results!

Since the rookies, team cards, and CL's are on one sheet, I would imagine the collation is not a random mix of all cards in the set from pack to pack...

I don't collect modern and haven't bought a box at a retail store since the 90's when I bought some "assorted mystery pack" boxes for $10 at Kmart.
Well I found a mystery box at Walmart today and on an impulse I bought it for 25 bucks.
Not one auto, mem, or numbered sick pull.
After these results, I think I'm good for another 30 years before buying another one. LOL

    The box...

    The packs...

If I had any idea there were Allan & Ginter in there, I would not have bought it.
    A BREAD card? Really?...

    Topps (yawn)...

Nippon Baseball (who are these guys?)...

    Topps Chrome ($10 insert..maybe?)...

    Prizm (yawn)...

Prizm BONUS pack, red, white and blue...

Is the bread card a scratch-n-sniff? that might make it a little more...... savory

  • RonSportscardsRonSportscards Posts: 942 ✭✭✭✭✭

This Cal Ripken CD-Rom trading card box was pretty beat up, so I figured I'd open it.
(It was cellophane wrapped before the first pic)
Came with a 10-card pack of 97 Donruss VXP, and a rectangular CD-Rom trading card.
Now THAT'S an Oddball! Only 1 Ripken CD-Rom card has been graded by PSA and it's a 9.
The Thome and Jones base cards don't have 10s, but looking at mine, that record's safe.

Loving all the UFC breaks... especially the Round 1 and 2. Broke a lot of those releases. Still have 2 sealed Round 1 boxes.

Panini is meh for me... quite disappointed. Prefer the older Topps... aside from Rd 1 and 2... love the Knockout releases... always lots of rookies and nice cards

  • ReggieClevelandReggieCleveland Posts: 3,818 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm a big fan of Select. It gets released later than the other UFC releases and so they're usually able to squeeze in a few RCs that didn't get into any other sets. I know in 2022 Ian Garry doesn't have a Prizm RC but he snuck into Select. That could prove to be a huge fumble on Panini's part.

Crashing !!! agreed.. Panini can bite me. good gawd that stuff is boring. Yeah you can get hits but still. 'Panini' and UFC do NOT go together. TOPPS and UFC do :) Am a buyer at 1800 per box of 2009 UFC Round 1 sealed boxes :)

Reggie.. Have not checked out Select.. I just remember 'Select' from back in 1993 Baseball. Same 'Select' product company ? No idea.

Next up. another completely frickin whacked 2022 Allen Ginter Chrome box:
