A question for the collectors of Franklin Halves...

Did you start collecting these as a YN or later in life when the profile of Ben looked more like all your male friends?

YN. Proof Franklins were the first set I went after (and only one I’ve completed). I’m putting some effort into not resembling the coin.

For me, it started with stacking silver as bullion. I was buying all kinds of random Franklin mint stuff and pretty much anything that caught my eye... A good friend and collector suggested "old 90% coinage" as a good way to buy silver on the cheap. I bought a partial album of Franklins on ebay and eventually found myself looking at local coin shops to fill in the rest of the dates missing from the album. That was the start for me, later in life around 2005.

Later in life. Fun easy set to do.

I really don’t remember 100% what drew me to Franklins. At this point it was about 10 years ago when I started collecting them. I didn’t make a whole lot of money back then and it was probably the fact that you could get really nice gem coins for not a whole lot of money. That and I just prefer the half dollar size coin and I do enjoy the design and the fact that an eagle isn’t the dominating design feature on the reverse.

When I was a YN, 50 cents was big money, more than my weekly allowance.
So it was much later when I got hooked by cameo Franklins.

I did it later in life (seems like so much younger now :D ). Was assembling the run of Kennedy halves and thought I should do the Franklins while I was doing that. At the time, I just got what I could... raw... Mostly low to mid MS. Cheers, RickO

My dad had a shoebox full of Washies, WLHs and Frankies he collected in the 60's & 70's when these were still in circulation. Started and finished all 3 about 15 years ago but sold the WQ and Franklins when silver ran in the $20 - $30's. Still have the WLHs and upgrading occasionally.

I was a YN. I inherited a lot of raw Walkers and Frankies from my dad. I went with the Walkers, b/c they are a more appealing (aesthetically) and challenging, than Franklins, but I have always liked them (Franklins). I only own TWO and I keep telling myself that I am going to get more involved and start collecting them more, but I am always pulled in other directions, by rarer and more populars series.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

When I was a YN in the early 1960's it was very easy to complete a set from circulation.

The first set I ever assembled as a YN. A local shop would have them priced between $3 and $5 for circulated examples.

As a kid from circulation. Great fun.
