I mean, if you're gonna send coins in for grading without understanding how to grade, you're gonna have a bad time, man.

Was waiting for a comment like this - always one wise guy out there

I just don't understand how complaining about grades you got when you don't know how to grade makes any sense.

The reason I posted was to get opinions - I never claimed to be a professional grader. There were several others on here that also thought it might be a cameo. I respect your insight but there is no need to try and ridicule me and insult my intelligence. People often send in coins for grading that do not know how to grade. That’s the whole point of professional grading. So what was the true objective of your comment? It’s just not necessary - I’m here to try and share with others and learn, despite those of you who would rather just ridicule folks. With all due respect to you, there is just no reason for it.

There appear to be noticeable areas of missing frost on each side, so the non-cameo assessment seems justified.

People are mentioning the contrast but looking at the coin I suspect one of the main grade and cameo limiting factor was the depth of mirrors on the rev

I'm not ridiculing anybody. Just pointing out the fallacy in complaining about grades yet not being able to grade yourself.

If you are truly here to learn, then why not ask the users here to postulate as to why the coin received that grade rather than having sour grapes about the grade and complaining?

Why don't you post that MS65 Silver Ike that was in the middle of this sub? Now that's a coin most people here should actually be able to look at and enumerate as to why it's a 65.

Maybe the title of my post made it seem as if I was complaining but I didn’t really mean it that way -
    I am here to learn!

I've never understood why these graded so strictly but now I have a much better idea.

After many years here, and learning from the experts, I have learned that grading proofs and proof designations (i.e. CAM) is not to be tried from photographs. In fact, coin photography on any coins can be deceptive, based on lighting, angles, equipment...

    Agree 100%.

    Yes, it's the same coin.

@COCollector.... Excellent example... And, you could probably have posted a couple of other pictures, of the same coin, that would still look different from those two. Cheers, RickO

I'm think weak strike may have held it back from a higher grade. There doesn't appear to be any detail in hair in the upper portion of the head.

It is a freakishly weak strike - that was one of the things I liked about it - it just looked cool, but you’re right, it is not a desirable characteristic in terms of numismatics.

Weak strike would normally result in a reduction in grade.

The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin
