1934 P Buffalo Nickel PCGS MS67 looks to be DDR FS-801

BWRCBWRC Posts: 1,448 ✭✭✭

This coin has doubling very similar to the 1931-S DDR FS-801 that is seen in the Cherry Pickers guide on page 326.
Doubling can be seen below the neck and behind the top of the left front leg.
Has anyone else seen this variety or is aware of it? Comments please.

Edited for correctness. I was looking at listing DDR-001, not DDR-002.

Here is a 1931-S graded PCGS MS66 #42532260 and attributed as DDR FS-801 by PCGS.
Doubling can be seen below the neck and behind the top of the left front leg. Very similar to the 1934 Buffalo in the above picture.

Here is a regular 1931-S Buffalo Nickel without reverse doubling behind the left front leg. PCGS MS67

I apologize for the incorrect info in my first post, which I have now edited. I was looking at DDR-001 instead of 002, which is why I was so wrong. I have fixed it now :D.

The doubling is so minor it's hard to tell without the coin in hand, but it does look to be a good match. I have looked at a few 1934 Buffalo nickels without any doubling at all and I can say that it does appear to be doubled. When compared directly the doubling becomes quite obvious. It appears to be the 1934 DDR-001, the images are horrible not the listing though. Here that listing is : http://www.varietyvista.com/03 Buffalo Nickels/1934PDDR001.htm

Here are a few comparison images - the first one doubled, the second one not for those that don't see it. Both are of 1934 Buffalo nickels.

I consider the doubling to be minor. It is visible, but something I personally don't consider to be a big deal.
