I visited a coin shop I haven't been to since 2009.

There is an excellent coin shop in the north county (San Diego) I loved going to. When I began to work in La Jolla in 2009, I hadn't been to this shop as I drove south and not north from my home.
I was in the area and thought I'd visit them.
What a treat!
The shop is like a time capsule because very little has changed—the same coin cases and a bidboard (although a coin board instead of bidding you purchase).

I went through the various cases and remembered one upfront. It is the type you push a button, and the trays rotate. I was pleasantly surprised to see a coin on one of the trays that had been there since (at least) 2009. I recognized it immediately. It still had its price tag from back in 2009- not that they've gone up crazy in price.

Anyway, these are the three coins I picked up (the last war nickel being the coin I recall seeing in 2009). It was a fun 20-minute visit, and I will be back within weeks and not decades next time!

The quarter is pretty—more speckled red than showing. The Jefferson is blue with lavender. I love this type of toning on these. The war nickel is ugly. No doubt. I can't imagine someone sending it in back years ago. It's a neat novelty, though (especially at $14.).
Thanks for the kind comments. It is coin collecting at its most entertaining-visiting these shops.

They didn't even bother to take the TeleTrade sticker off the war nickel.

Nice pickups! I haven't been to a coin shop in years myself. Btw, I don't think that war nickel is ugly! Lol

was the 45-D that ugly in 2009? Too bad we can't get old Teletrade results to see pics and sale price.

Love the Washington quarter. Beautiful toning.

Wonder how many times the war nickel rotated around in the last 13+ years! 🤔

I've seen a lot of certified war nickels like this and I think it's from a lazy dipper. :s

I’ll have to check it out again next time I’m down that way. I picked up some nice coins there too, but it was way back in about 2005. Good to hear it’s still there.

The warnick will probably be forever grateful you released it from it's revolving jail.

Nice purchases. Does anyone else think the grade on the warnick is very generous?

Yeah, I think I would have let it set in the case for another 13 years. :D

But I love the 61 proof......if it's as cameo as the pic shows.

I wish we had a coin shop in this area. Would be really nice. I remember when I lived in Seattle, there were several.. and more in surrounding towns. Here it is a coin desert... No shows, no shops (other than antique shops with a few overpriced Morgans and Peace dollars), no collectors that I know of.... So, I come here. ;) Cheers, RickO
