Why would a PCGS cert number be unrecognized/invalid?

I have this slabbed merc, and using PCGS number lookup gives no valid result.
Why/how does that happen?

My first guess is bogus slab and insert.

i have some certs recently that showed up invalid on the website, but then checked out on the mobile app. Obviously a PCGS issue. However, I just checked your cert on both platforms and both came up invalid.

I had that happen with my DBD, I contacted customer service and it was quickly corrected.

I've written this response, or a similar one, at least a half-dozen times over the last two decades. At one point, around twenty-years ago, PCGS mentioned on the precursor to these boards that there had been a data glitch on some insert numbers that generally began with 50 and that had been certified around the time of the transition from green to blue inserts. While your coin does not begin with 50, the insert is from the generation where there was a glitch. I wouldn't worry about it.
