Surprising circulation find: Daniel Carr piece received in change

A friend regularly shows me his change to look for anything above face value. Overall, this has yielded very few finds; he has received silver in change only once or twice (he has better luck with the CoinStar machine in that regard) and a single W quarter back in 2019.

In yesterday's change from either the local hardware store or the CVS pharmacy, he received a silver-plated 2004 Washington DC "JUSTICE TO ALL" novelty quarter. These were designed by @dcarr and issued by the National Collector's Mint.

These would normally be considered medals, but since my friend received it in trade, I guess that technically makes it a token, as well. ;) I explained to him that, as an impaired proof, the numismatic value of the piece probably isn't much, but it is certainly a rare find in circulation. The mintage of these is 2,250, and presumably a very small fraction would have been spent by accident. Whatever the number, the probability of receiving one in change is incredibly low. I told him that, regardless of value, I thought it was a neat find!

That's crazy! What are the odds of this happening?

That is the second one of those that I have read about that was mixed in with circulating coinage.
in uncirculated condition they sell for a few dollars, usually.

I know that I accidently spent a DCarr coin once - not one of the subject coins. It happens if it gets in a pile of change - I always carry change in my pocket anyway. Surprised it was accepted since it was one of the brass colored ones. Oh well... It is out there somewhere... Cheers, RickO

Do I smell a "special" label in the works? Nice find. Peace Roy

Once I accidentally spent one of those risqué Arkansas quarters (not a Dan Carr item).

The funniest part was that I was in
Germany and it got spent/accepted as a one mark coin.
