you will only find mint marks on indian cents from 1908-s and 1909-s, period.
1878 Indian Cents were only struck in Philadelphia. None have mint marks.
If you don't already have one, buy a current copy of "A Guide Book of United States Coins" (commonly called the Redbook). All of that info is in there. It will be the best $15 you'll spend on the hobby.
