Why isn't that just a private label and not a grading company?
It says USCG if you look closely, and I don't think the Coast Guard is into grading coins. Nevertheless, if you write something that looks like initials of a grading company on a 2x2 and botch the capitalization of most of the information, it's equivalent to the slab shown. Does the bar code even match the numbers shown in any known encoding, or is it purely capricious and decorative?
Most self slabbers don't add a bar code to their label. Can we see the back of the slab? Is there a name there?

Is that the Coast Guard slab USCG? The actual name of the company is United States Coin Grading. I do see them from time to time in various auctions. The coins are over graded.

Where do you see USCG? I don't see it.

That would still make it a private label, even if they are attempting to mimic a grading company. I see these all the time with fictitious initials.
United States Coin Grading but this is now part of ICG, I believe.
And although ICG coins (and ANACS) are not the “top” grading companies I do know a collector who has sent three separate entries to ICG since Jan - and got all but the third back - while I still await my January submission to PCGS....
so, there is that!

It would be nice to see a clear image of the coin's reverse, that could tell more of a story about the coin as far as details.
I might also question the tag's rounded corners while the encasement (holder's) tag window has sharply squared corners
The initialed water mart would be a pretty easy thing to pull off in modern times for sure!
I know, more question and no real answers.

I tried looking it up online. No real history out there that comes up immediately anyway.

Big fat letters USCG are visible thru the label.

Definitely a sketchy holder. The barcode is bogus too.

I'm not falling for this one again
Was this company started by a coast guard veteran and just added coin grading in stead of coast guard?
The auction only shows the upper part of the slab's reverse- showing the coin and nothing else.

They are past history.

I do not care about the label/slab... but that coin is not MS64 - not even close. Cheers, RickO
I thought the same thing but one thing I have learned is that it is really hard to grade a peace dollar from a photo.
