How can you determine if your stacking dollars was successful?

Question was inspired by another thread and coho doesn't have to answer if he thinks any are too hard. There is no right or wrong answer:

How can you determine if your stacking dollars was successful when they are constantly worth less than they were before?

I'm almost afraid to ask but what's an "unimitated hooker"? :o

No, I'm pretty sure he did mean "unimitated". After all, isn't that how the expression goes?... Imitation is the sincerest form of fellatory?

I’m not having much success stacking dollars. 0.10% interest on my savings account from my credit union. Two months ago I was charged a dormant account fee. I never withdraw money from that account. Pissed me off just on principal. Stacking gold makes me much happier.

Well, I suppose that there's imitation hookers and then there's the real thing. Accept no imitations.

One year CDs are over 1.7%. Talk to your bank. One year t-bills are over 1.7%. Talk to your broker.

Digital "I" bonds are paying 7.12%. Talk to your Treasury Direct website.

You only repeated 1/2 of what I said. What don't you understand about tongue-in-cheek?

Going up to 9.62% on May 1. For anyone having extra savings that they won't need for a year, and optimally 5 years, this is a no brainer.

    Could rise higher yet

They could. But even 5% today would blow away other low risk forms of investment. People need to keep in mind that the decision to buy I series bonds now shouldn't be predicated upon possibility even higher yields. (I am not suggesting that you were insinuating that, but I know that some people will think that because they are not familiar with how these particular bonds work). I series bonds should be bought now, as in today. It's not like a CD or other bonds where you lock in a rate which may influence a decision to hold off on tying up your money in the event rates go higher. Buy all the I bonds you can afford (up to $10K per SS#) for yourself, your spouse (or spouses in my case), children, and pets (as long as they have a legitimate SS# [German Shepherds are eligible, but I heard Pekingese and Chihuahuas are not]).
