Nice find. Mine was when I was stationed in Hawaii and I wandered into a hole in the wall pool hall. Got $2 in quarters and 5 were silver. The two oldest were a 34 and 36. No silver with the third dollar.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

It would have to be a CWR. I don't think you could ever see that in a modern machine-wrapped roll.

    Thank You, guys.
    In a word,
    "Unbelievable"!
I'm trying to remember, where and which bank I got these? Lol.
I received them from three different banks! Lol.
Oh well. This, I'm pretty sure, will never happen to me again.
But then again, "never say never", right?
    :D
The two modern silver Proofs. Both 90% too?
    Thanks

When they restarted striking "silver" coins for the Bicentennial they resurrected the 40% clad format that was used in the last silver coins struck, the 1965-1970 half dollars.

It wasn't until the Washington commemorative half dollar in 1982 that they reverted to the historical purity of 90%. I think they expected to restart the commemorative half dollar series, but before long we had commem silver dollars and gold coins.

I believe that now all mint silver is .999 to facilitate sourcing of blanks.

we have very different interpretations of dream finds.

literally, i fantasize about opening a roll filled with gold coins. that'd be one heavy roll. any denom would be fine. i also fantasize about ordering from one of the banks delivered by the armored truck services and getting a back of unsearched dollars (morgans/peace) with loads of gem 78p/s/cc and/or dmpls. ;)

best to keep some big dreams alive as they may not happen often but when they do....

You guys are too, too funny! Lol
    Thanks.
Well, it seems I may have it. That same honey hole?
I figured out which bank it was, I think?
Got 10 rolls and found a few more! Esp.
    5 in one roll.
    8, in total.
    Plus, one "W"!

Silver shows up in "veins" so you can definitely get loaded MWR's. Best MWR of halves I ever had was 11 90%ers, so over half the roll. Box had something like 200 90%ers in it.

That might be true in some areas, but I have heard that some coin processers weed out the silver.

nice! I was looking for my spreadsheet from years ago when I would track the silver I found in $500 half dollar boxes. I would get about $5,000 in half dollars at a time. My best box ever was when I pulled in about $1,000 in silver in one $500 box (I can't remember how much silver was at the time). it was crazy. Makes me want to hunt again but I don't have time for that anymore and there aren't any banks that will take lose change around me.

Adding, to this day I still find half dollars in the nooks and crannies of both of my cars.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Reading about all this silver being found, makes me want to search half dollar rolls again... Maybe.... Cheers, RickO
