Where do you think this 89 CC would grade at?

As title states, its rare to see a raw high grade example on auction these a days and was curious to where people would grade this baby at?

I take it you buy your coins from ebay and are looking for rips. Hence, why else do you only post ebay links here seeking opinions?

Would you take a risk on that coin at the 1,000 threshold, especially if you don't know what you're doing?

Where do you think this 89 CC would grade at?

The coin would only grade at a third-world grading company and before the "at."

However, the coin is a heavily cleaned and tooled counterfeit. The "CC" mintmark shown on the eBay example is incorrect for this scarce issue. I just graded several of them at PCGS.

Do not buy an 89-CC dollar unless it is verifiably certified by PCGS or NGC.

That is an ugly coin IMHO. Something was chewing on it. Not gradable.

And if the OP really had a rip, posting it here would render it not a rip :D

Santa Ana, California or Sarasota, Florida. There are other options, but these two places are where it is most likely to grade at.

It appears to be a genuine 1889-CC matching VAM-4 in the placement of the date digits and CC.
    Extensively pockmarked and polished.

    XF details, cleaned and damaged

Wow... That coin is definitely poorly cleaned and terribly damaged. I would question the authenticity.... It would be a fast pass for me. Cheers, RickO

I'm not sure the CC is the correct position, the first C should be higher than the second and I don't see it from the ebay photos. JMO Also, aren't the bubbles in the face an indication of a counterfeit? They don't look like rusty die effect to me, but I'm most certainly not a counterfeit expert. I will bow to those here that are.

The title of this thread reminded me of an encounter with a street hustler in New Orleans who said: "I bet I can tell you where you got your shoes at"...

    "Sure", I said...

He responded with: "well, you got em on your feet right now, and your feet are in New Orleans"

It was a good laugh and only cost me a few dollars...

That said, I don't think the coin that the OP referenced would grade at any reputable TPG service. It's highly questionable for authenticity and even if its genuine, would get bagged for multiple issues...

Genuine not gradable. Polished example. Still a desirable date and mint mark. Not everyone can afford the best so there definitely is a market. My guess would be $800 - 1,200.

Surprised you didn't put "monster" in your description. After all, it does have a yellowish tint to it.
