That strange "Purple" is the give away.
Hi guys,
While CRHunting Quarters. I came across this toner.
Usually, when this peculiar purple appears. That's when, I think anyway, when red flags should be present? I could be wrong? From my experience in finding these purple toned coins. There are most of the time a untouched line area. Such as highlighted.
I think the toning doctors bring this tone out with some sort of electrical device? In which, the untouched line appearance shows up.
I have to admit, these do look very pretty but not natural.
Purple toning is fine but in these cases. They appear too extreme!
Example:
I once purchased a super purplish Ike Dollar graded by PCI. I Paid $250. However, when some of you guys pointed out to me. This coin is too fishy! I looked into it further. And you guys were right. I brought back the coin to the coin shop and the dealer did refund me. He did not admit it was unnatural. He was just kind enough to give me back my money.
What do you guys think about this funky "Purple"?
Thanks
I brought up the photo of that Purple Ike Dollar!
Ahhh! That Darn Purple

Purple rain. When I see that holder I tend to shift gears and move on to the next coin. The 1st coin looks like a torch job.
Hoard the keys.
Thanks.
In my opinion, the PCI graded coins aren't really too bad. They been around a long time. I do believe, I could be wrong, that David Hall used to be in the company before PCGS? The coins graded aren't exactly gospel but still contain some beautiful coins.
Some of the old PCI holders are a collector's item in themselves.

The very early PCI holders that included the photo of the coin are usually very good. The PCI green holders are worth a look as many of the early ones were correctly graded.
Purple - as in those above - certainly raises questions. Experimentation must be done to perfect AT methods. The really good coin doctors are way beyond such obvious efforts. Cheers, RickO
