Weigh it. It will weigh 3.1 grams because it is a regular cent that has been plated.

I believe the aluminum cents weighed less than 1 gram (0.93 gms I think), so weighing it on an accurate scale should give you the answer.
Many cents were plated after the left the mint. Electroplating cents was also a popular high school chemistry experiment
