Cool holder (and coin) - 1878-CC GSA soft pack in a graded PCGS holder

This the the first time I've seen a holder like this. I'm glad that the soft pack has been left intact as well. I think it's a neat addition for my collection too! Also get a kick out of this coin being called "circulated" by the GSA, talk about tough grading.

That is a great acquisition. Wish I had found one when I built my CC series. Cheers, RickO
Wow, that was quite the find. May we have the story if known?
Well, just Love coins, period.
Very nice! I knew ATS did this for a while but had no idea PCGS did it too. A nicely toned example too!

Very nice. Recent holder. Appears as if it is an offered PCGS service.
Bet that was a happy soft pack buyer!
Definitely a first seen for me. Nice.

Many of the better ones were cracked out before the services started grading coins in gsa holders, etc.. And those were not $400 plus coins 20 years ago.
Here's the TrueView, looks like PCGS even took it through the plastic.

It looks like VAM-20 if you were interested, and the GSA would grade a lot of coins with color circulated for some reason. They essentially gave some people crash courses in grading and many uncirculated coins on the lower end of the scale or toned coins ended up going into circulated packs.

thanks. i do like vamming 78-cc. i love vamming all 1878 coins although, 78p and 78s have plenty that are VERY difficult w/o the proper experience/references. doing them JUST from vamworld can be quite a challenge, even with the attribution guides and sort lists. quite time-consuming, but still fun/enjoyable.
Very nice 78cc especially in the soft pack.
Really cool color and coin!
May I ask where you got it?

Finally able to log back in and respond. I got this coin from a recent GC auction. Overpay? Maybe a bit, but this is one coin that spoke to me, along with the unique holder. What's not to like about a CC Morgan?
The golden toning is a bit lighter in hand than the TrueView but still very attractive. Maybe the original box should have been slabbed too?

I really like the toning on obverse. Nice score
They didn't come in a box, they came in an envelope.
I like that PCGS does that. I like seeing the GSAs (soft pack or hard case) kept intact.

What a lovely, unique addition!
I admire the toning and it is reminiscent of my 1885 CC in PCGS 64.
Congratulations on a great pickup!!
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
