How in the world is this coin VF30?

Isn't this F15 at best? I've graded nicer ones that didn't even break VF20. This coin doesn't even have full LIBERTY and the lowest wing feather is incomplete. What say you?

I agree. I think F15 is correct ...not VF at all.
i could see vf20 but absolutely not vf30
Yeah, looks 20 max. Maybe weak strike?
I thought so too but these late date phillys are supposed to come nice!
Scratches on the back of Ms. Liberty's head too??

It would appear so!
Here's the last 30 I sold. Nothing else needs to be said!

Mechanical error? Hit the three instead of the two when typing up the label perhaps?

Interesting theory! Something went wrong, that's for sure.
Now that's more like it!

Au53 easy!
Of course it’s VF30, can’t you read the label? 🤔
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

F15, maybe stretch to VF20.
dangit i got so caught up in the grading (can't see the forest for the trees) that i forgot to say, what a pleasant looking barber half. once you take your finger and gently rub off that cheek dirt (i've done it many times).
because it is ONLY an opinion....
I would grade it a 20, I think 15 is a bit harsh... But that is why they call grades 'opinions'. Might rain today... might not.
Cheers, RickO
I'm an old school grader but I'd be hard pressed to even go 15.
Or the Professional Encapsulator Engineer (slab guy) couldn't read the grader's notes! Is that a 58 or a 63? When in doubt, don't question it, just enter the higher number!

If you rub off the cheek, does that rub off on the grade?

mistakes happen even in grading coins
no matter the grade it's a pretty nice coin

I would feel 20 rather than the 30. But I'm not a Barber collector, so I could be missing something.

Between the cleaning, the abundance of wear and the rim damage...not a 30 in my world.
What about the scratches, wouldn't that drop down the grade a few points?
not sure what you are asking but i do it gently and it is a personal preference. just a bunch of gunk buildup, usually seems to come from being in with a lot of other coins in a bag/tub or whatever for a while and comes off pretty easily. most people probably don't thin it is a big deal.
Easier and safer to do it with acetone and a cotton swab!
They supposedly separate the VF grades based on feathers on the wingtips, since there aren't any, I wouldn't think over 20.
if you could remove the acne on the cheek it would then be as graded

If I were selling it, it's a 30 all day long. If I'm buying it, the coin was graded on the same day of the PCGS office party, if you know what I mean (or at least that's how I envision the discussion going at any given dealer's table).

Maybe they forgot to put the divided by 2 under the grade...
It's a 15 to me on a good day.

The sad part is that coin sold for a price based on the plastic....not the coin!
That's a she?
Smitten with DBLCs.
It has nice original surfaces and has original "crust". Also it is generally lacking any noticeable scratches and dings. I would be inclined to call it VF20.
Market Grading the coin is F12 aka F12 money.
Do I need glasses or is there something wrong with the shield lines on OP's coin?

why do the shield lines look like this on the coin originally posted?

Interesting as I see the same thing. But if I open image in new tab I see normal lines.

Weird. Some kind of digital artifact perhaps

Appears to me the grade was a mistake and a "gift" to the submitter. Or a mechanical error. It happens, but fortunately, not often.
