This is Frye visiting Takayama. Backstory. That fight wasn't supposed to happen. If I remember,Takayama stepped in at the last minute. He later is paralyzed from an accident during his wrestling career. Inspirationally, he has learned to paint with his mouth. They are now friends for life.
It's worth watching that video. It tells sone of Frye's story. How his life went downhill after that fight. But Takayama was there for him. Takayama became a star. Then had his accident. And Frye was there for him too.
Takayama looks like an Asian version of Wayne Newton in that second video. After the pummeling he took in the fight video his face could probably use a couple nights laying around in that Ice Hotel.

In the second video he is hospitalized because he is now almost fully paralyzed after a wrestling accident.

That is pretty rough, at least he's still alive.
...
Agree. He's made the most of it by learning to paint with his mouth.
@thisistheshow, Wow, that is an incredible fight, I had never seen it before. I mostly follow boxing, I haven't followed MMA too closely, I know a little bit about it, but not too much, incredible fight and it's sad that Takayama ended up paralyzed later in life. It doesn't surprise me that Frye and Takayama became friends, they obviously earned eachothers respect from that fight, both men giving everything they have in a vicious war.

Back then, it was a different world in MMA. The guys didn't have the ground game the same way. A lot more stand up. Wearing shoes. 10 minute rounds. Fighting frequently, sometimes even multiple times per night, but always more frequently. This specific round is up there with "The war" in terms of legend status, but much less well-known. I'm happy that I I introduced it to you.

Yes, thank you, it was very entertaining. I must admit, I'm very impressed by your knowledge of the MMA fight game, I didn't realize you were so educated on the art of controlled violence, I like it!

Lol. I'm honestly much less educated relative to your boxing knowledge. I was more into it "back in the day". But I'll read through forums or discussions sometimes. I enjoy it. I will read through boxing stuff too. I don't keep up with the newer stuff that much. If I hear them talking on sports radio about a boxing or MMA fight, I have to figure its big.

Even better, I like past sports history better than current, I find the beginning days of sports to be fascinating. Stevek was my go-to guy on health foods and the benefits of vitamins, you're my go-to guy on MMA history!

Don't beat yourself up, I have an addiction to Twinkies, I've been hooked on them for years, heck I still remember when Twinkies almost went extinct back in 2012, we fought viciously for the last boxes, and dealers were charging ridiculous prices, those were hard times and hard fought battles, I'll never forget the Twinkie wars.

You might not remember this, but there was a time when "fat free" was all the rage. We know now that healthy fats are good for you, and that high calorie fat free foods are not a great way to lose weight. But in the 90s, fat free Twinkies were a thing... I just googled them. I see they still night make low fat ones. But I am almost certain they had fat free back then. Lol

And the above is related to the draft how?
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
I'm sorry, but this thread has spun out of control, it is now an NFL Draft, wrestling, UFC, ice hotel, Planter's mixed nuts, Twinkie thread.

This would be a pretty interesting change if the NFL switched the draft to a lottery style format. I'm not sure that I'd want to see all of the 18 nonplayoff teams in the lottery but maybe the worst 10-12 teams. Just don't do the same as the NBA and give the top 3-5 worst teams better odds, make every team in the lottery have equal odds.

I liked the Rams draft ..t but then again I am biased.
The Bill slook like they had a solid draft too
....
If the NFL ever decides to go this route, I can definitely foresee them screwing it up.
