What's driving the pricing on these Chinese ANA WFOM medals?

I'm curious. Is it low mintages? The intrigue of the plastic?

I must admit that I really like the designs, with tribute images of American coinage related to the city of the event on the reverse. But I don't understand what is driving their pricing so much higher than other Panda bullion.

Anyone hazard a guess?

I do not know the answer to your question. However, I do like the designs, so for me, it would not be the plastic or the label. Cheers, RickO

Usually the mintages are fairly low and they only release them for sale at coin shows. The first one you show from 2016 was pretty popular when it was released but prices have come down (I believe they are half of the peak from 2016).

I think they do well because they are easy to collect as a series that is adjacent to another popular series. Specifically:

    1. they are a series in that the panda theme carries on year to year,
    2. the series has roughly equal quality year to year,
    3. they are like proof silver rounds vs. having antique finish which is more like art medals, and
    4. the panda theme is related to the bullion coins which are also popular.

This is unlike the other ANA medals which vary greatly in subject matter, vary in style/quality year to year, and are more like art medals than silver rounds.

I'm curious as to the quantity produced.

I know there are a couple of weight made - 1oz and 50g. I get pricing 3 to 4 times bullion value, but I'm seeing 10x to 11x bullion on the 2019's. That seems to be insane.

The series lost me with the 2020 and 202 strikes as they got away from the "coin within a coin" design.

Here is an article from 2016 that mentions mintages up to that point.

I don’t know about the 2019 besides seeing some sources say the gold was limited to 88 pieces.

Have you ever priced an 1804 $? It costs 500,000x bullion value.

We're talking modern non-circulating medals, not currency from your youth.

    Really illogical analogy.
