Very Late GNA Show Report

Sorry for the late report. I have been way too busy to be retired.

I left home at daylight on Friday to drive to the Georgia Numismatic Association show in Dalton, Georgia. The GNA show is held each April at the North Georgia Convention Center. It is a very nice facility located just off the Interstate. There is plenty of free parking. I arrived about 30 minutes after the opening. There was a crowd at the registration desk.

Darrell was set up at the first table with his great assortment of Barber coins. We had a nice chat and he showed me the 1840 Seated dollar in PCGS AU-50 that he had bought. It is a beautiful coin.

I started around the floor. It seemed to me that there were more raw coins this time than I remember seeing at this show in other years. There were very few better PCGS coins although I did see 2 $50 Reeded edge slugs. The one in PCGS XF-45 looked very nice.

For Ricko: Recent Silver Eagles were priced at $45, Nice circ. Morgan Silver Dollars were $35, 10 ounce silver bars were $300.

I met up with Dimeman. We had a nice chat. We agreed on which dealer, on the internet, has the worst photos. I will not mention his name.

The concession stand had a lunch of homemade meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread muffin and a soft drink for $8.50. I have been to some convention centers where they want that much for a hot dog! The dealers said the lunch was good.

I went two times around the bourse floor and found nothing that I needed. I purchased a 2023 Red Book from the supply dealer in the lobby on the way out. I had a great time.

Nice report. I purchased one coin before entry but found nothing of interest on the floor. Atlanta traffic was murder on the way home. 😡

My kid just got back home yesterday after a swim meet and said the same of Atlanta traffic, but he had the experience of having driven in and through New York City a few times last year under his belt, so managed deftly to the surprise of his friends in the van who sat with their eyes shut.

It’s a 5 hour trip for me assuming Atlanta isn’t backed up. I don’t think I’ll ever attend the Dalton show due to Atlanta traffic.

@golden ... Thanks for the show report and the bullion prices. Glad to hear @Dimeman is still circulating... I miss him here on the forum. Cheers, RickO

Very nice coin with the common adjustment marks on reverse.

Unless you are dead south of Atlanta and close there are some pleasant alternative routes that aren't much farther at all! The only time I have to drive through Atlanta is if I'm going dead E or NE. I'm dead West.

I'm NE. Going through Atlanta is about the only way now. Used to be able to cut across and bypass the sprawl. Not so much anymore.

Yeah, Ga 20 used to be an alternative. I believe not too long ago is was rated as one of the most heavily traveled Hwy's in the country. :o

I understand - from where I am in South Carolina there are only two options - 1) down 85, endure the bypass, and up 75 or 2) across the mountains of Upstate South Carolina and north Georgia. Both options take a minimum of 4-1/2 hours and I'm just getting too old for that.
