Free Numismatic Symposium - D.L. Hansen Interview

I was tied up at the beginning, so I missed the first 15 or 20 minutes of this 35 minute or so interview, but I found much of what I saw fascinating, especially learning more about the man and his positive attitudes towards our hobby and his collection.. Very worthwhile. I'm guessing it can be seen in its entirety at some point soon, and whether you like him or not, I suggest taking the time to watch it!

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!

JF: What do you think about CAC?
DLH: I think CAC has created value, but maybe too much value. Even if you talk to John he might agree that people are placing too much value on CAC coins.
My Saint Set
And there are some on this forum who choose to put too little value, if any, on CAC coins.
Regardless, please don't hijack the thread. This post is about D.L. Hansen and a peek at the thoughts behind his collection, not about CAC.
Thanks.

I found it interesting, from the same article, that Hansen started getting serious after collecting saints.
DLH: After some time off from collecting coins, a couple years ago I happened again across Bob’s store here in Salt Lake so I popped in. I set my goals this time on something more challenging, like St. Gaudens gold $ 20’s. Bob’s strategy was to initially buy coins in the “jump grade” where the price jumps significantly in the next grade. The first 20 coins were relatively inexpensive, but now I started to do my own research and I started searching the web and found a Los Angeles dealer on eBay (Barry Stuppler) who had a lot of great coins.

I was not able to watch that one so I too hope it will be available latter, watching the Gerry Fortin session now.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
At the end of the Fortin talk they said the recording will be available in 2 weeks or so. Maybe that will be the case with the Hansen session. I hope so. I would like to see that one.

I heard that as well, glad that these recordings will be made available as there is no way I will be able to do them all live. I did enjoy Gerry's session and the chance to see some of his impressive collection of seated dimes.

Hansen, who is in his early-70's, said he will have his collection transferred to a trust and disbursed following his death.
If you missed anything, all videos will be posted in 2-3 weeks. There are more sessions Saturday & Sunday, see https://nnpsymposium.org/ for full details.
