TrueView on all?

ndeaglesndeagles Posts: 397 ✭✭✭✭

I just received back a modern value order. There were trueview requested on several of the coins, when I initially received them back there were no images, but yesterday the images populated for all of the coins not just the ones I requested true view on. One difference the non true view pictures do not have the cert numbers edited into the image. They also appear to be lower quality images. Since these are moderns is it possible they are just populating a stock photo? Has anyone else experienced this or did I miss an update on this?

True view examples these ones I selected true view and paid the extra fee. You can see PCGS trueview and the cert number on them

Non-try view. These I didn't select or pay for trueview, these images don't have the trueview on them or the cert number?

PCGS doesn't use stock photos for certs as far as I have ever seen/heard, so no, those should be your actual coins.

They are coinfacts images though. They may have been taken for internal use, or the photographer wasn't paying attention enough and took pics when they weren't supposed to? Who knows.

The images aren’t lower quality. They are the same high quality photos. The only difference is they aren’t in the TrueView template. Enjoy your freebies.

The McAullife coin actually looks cooler than I thought it would - kind of like a modernized Morgan Dollar Miss Liberty.

Wow, beautiful coins you have there, my friend.
Yeah, like mentioned. I don't know what's up but at least you did receive some freebie photos.
    Awesome pics!
Probably a mix up some where from our Host. Nowadays, anything can happen.

i'm pretty sure ALL coins submitted have been getting imaged since AT LEAST jan 1, 2022, perhaps 1 year prior, except the economy tier. it is why the prices went up but not the full price of the $10 former TV price.

@ndeagles... Those are all very nice coins and great pictures. That 2021 ASE is great - and as a PR70 it should be.... Cheers, RickO

I have an old 2021 submission form (paper).
(Yes, I know that I am a dinosaur, and should at least try the online submission center.)

As far as I can tell, nothing changed between 2021 and 2022 (i.e., service levels that included GS, max coin values, and grading fees).
Note - the 2021 paper form did not include a line for the CC voucher. Notwithstanding, I do not believe that the max coin value changed (i.e., $2,500). I am, however, not sure about the inclusion of GS in 2021.

I also stumbled across a 2020 fee table on paper, similar in format to the 2022 fee reference.
A summary of the differences that I detected follows (2020 vs. 2022):
    ~ "Regular" - did not include GS @ $35; now includes GS @ $38
    ~ "Modern/Modern Value" - was $16; now $17
~ "Economy Special Issues" - did not include GS @ $25; now includes GS @ $30
    ~ "Reholder" - was $12 non-GS & $17 with GS; now $13 non-GS & $18 with GS
~ "CC Voucher" - did not include GS; now includes GS
Note - as previously disclosed, I do not have GS status information for the CC voucher in 2021. As such, I cannot definitively state WHEN GS was added to this service level (i.e., 2021, or 2022).

    2022 Fee Reference

    Edited to add:
Turns out that you can access the PCGS "Service & Fees" info for 2020 - 2022 via:
    https://www.pcgs.com/resources/pdf/PCGSMemberServicesAndFeesXXXX.pdf
Just replace "XXXX" with the year if interest (e.g., 2021).

Look like GS was added to the CC voucher in 2021. :)

I do like NGC slab scan to help detect counterfeits. If this is a PCGS copied feature, it assumes seller of a fake would have a decent picture.
