Just saw the Case of the Wooden Nickles (12/10/64}. The case centers around the Confederate Half Dollar. A coin that was also mention was a 1884 Trade Dollar with chop marks.

In the real world, an 1884 Trade Dollar would be an extremely unlikely candidate for chop marks.😉

I think I remember that Perry Mason episode..... Not the detail about the 1884 dollar though. Cheers, RickO
Perry Mason - "The Case of the Wooden Nickels":
It was a pretty interesting 1964 episode from the numismatic standpoint.
The plot involved substituting replicas for original rare coins, the selling of a Confederate Half Dollar, and eccentric coin collectors.
There are some scenes of the traditional downtown small cramped coin shop, and a wealthy collector's displays.
The Confederate Half Dollar from the show
The coin is probably a replica that is sold to tourists at Civil War historic sites.
Some other coins from the episode
The coins appear to be two United States Morgan Silver Dollars, a Continental Silver Dollar, an Italian coin of Victor Emmanuel II, and a Mexican Josefa 5 Centavos coin.

Even though the coins weren’t real, it made me cringe to see how carelessly they were handled. Hamilton Burger must have left his thumbprint on the half dollar.
