    woodgrain effect.

alloy just wasnt properly mixed enough. probably on millions of lincs and indians.

    Grade? Pictures:
    1. Too small
    2. Too out of focus
    3. Too dimly lit

Don’t leave all that border around coin. It’s eating up space that could be used for more coin

Don’t shoot them at an angle

So you think it's a woody? Thought about that but not sure.

I'd say AU55 for details, but the lighting is probably impacting the color.

I see two green flecks on the Indian's headband. I am hoping it is not active.

1909 was only the second year that the San Francisco Mint produced minor coins.

The Nickel would follow in 1912 at both Denver and San Francisco, with the Cent making its debut in 1911 at Denver.

Seems like San Francisco never really got the alloy mixed correctly for Cents, as some of the most blatant woodies seem to have come from there.

Not sure I would label that coin a woodie, and I agree with @braddick regarding the green specs on your closeup.

I would have to see that coin in hand, or at least much better pictures... I can see the 'wood grain' attribution, but looking closely, I am not totally convinced. Might be just the pictures/lighting. Cheers, RickO

Does "active" mean they are still growing and could get bigger? Nothing to kill these green spots?

It's not so much about killing them, it's about the damage they may have done already.

if they are active,, then it's also the damage that could be done

Tough to say without coin in hand... with the images in the OP, the color looks more yellow-orange on my monitor. This could be lighting, or the color saturation on my monitor, or a combination of the two. Normally, I might suggest an acetone bath for the verdigris, but in this instance, I'm a bit reluctant. I'm not 100% certain, based on the images I'm looking at, that if the acetone removes the green spot, that you're necessarily going to like what's underneath.
