METAL PORN!! Post some of the good stuff!
There was a thread on the main US coin forum this week about the first spouse program being 15 years old.
Reminded me that I have the Jefferson pieces. Haven't thought about them in years.
And that reminded me of how back in the day, about 15 years ago, I'd have a few adult beverages and spend Friday night on eBay doing one of two things: Sending my nephew random slabbed foreign gold coins, to arrive unexpectedly a week or so later, or buying the late 1980s commemorative silver dollar and gold $5 sets for my own stack.
The beauty of these sets was that nobody wanted them, so they often seemed to sell at melt for the gold piece alone--meaning you'd get the silver dollar for free. And the cost at the time? About $115. I'd try for the uncirculated sets, because they had way lower mintages than the proofs.

The 1987? Possibly my favorite modern coin design.
Cool thing about these pieces is that each one is just about 1/4 ounce (.2419 oz).

Mintage of only 5,000 coins!
Specimen Uncirculated! This coin is an instant rarity. The Fabulous 15 Mark Silver Maple Leaf was struck for a European distributor and is extremely popular around the world! These privy Silver maples were only sold in sets of 15 coins - and a set has to be broken up in order for the special-edition Privy-Marked Silver Maple Leaf to see the light of day. Very few collectors or investors are willing to do this - which is why they are so difficult to locate! Comes to you in a star-lined square capsule with the words" Fabulous 15 Silver Collection" underneath the coin.
Yup, SAWEET!! And well out of my price range. CNGRTS!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.
