Is this an error or a variety? 1988 Lincoln cent no designer initials, missing Abraham Lincoln

Found a most unusual penny a while ago, it is an 88 cent however 2 things are missing, one the designer initials are no where to be found and also it is missing Abraham Lincoln whom is nowhere to be found. Is this considered mint error or variety? Would PCGS grade such a coin and put it coin the labels as missing initials and Lincoln? I can say I have come across 1 or 2 with no initials but missing Lincoln I think is a pretty big deal making it quite a rarity, wouldn't you think? I don't know how to put pictures up yet as soon as I figure it out I will put some images up

As a new member it will take a few days before you can post a picture here. If you post somewhere else you can link to it here, though. This is one case where we need to see both sides of the coin to give you advice.

Heavily polished reverse, resulting in Lincoln statue being polished off, and initials also. Kind of a neat variety... others will have to answer whether PCGS would mention the info in the label. Neat find!

Agree on polished die.
No idea on value but I like it!
I agree with everyone, it is from die polishing, however so is the 3 legged buffalo if Im not mistaken. I would think it is a rarity, time will tell, who do you send it to to get it noticed?
as crazy as it may sound, you may want to check this against the WAM variety, even though the FG is gone, there are other diagnostics to confirm.

Three are endless varieties due to polished dies. Very few have the popularity or value of the 3 legged buffalos.
It is all a matter of promoting it to generate demand. It elyld need to be well known, have reasonably dramatic eye appeal, and there would have to be enough avaliable so that it is obtainable but uncommon enough so that the demand exceeds supply.
@rgolden88.... Welcome aboard. I agree with the polished die conclusion. A good coin for the 'educational' file. Not likely to command much of a numismatic premium. Very good pictures by the way. Cheers, RickO
