Incidence of '68 DDO Dimes.
I've previously estimated these at about 2.7% in mint sets but am coming to believe this is significantly too high. Since they are much more popular now it's pretty likely they are being cherry picked at a significant rate so any sample might be contaminated.
Be this as it may I now believe it might be as low as 2%.
This is one of my favorite modern varieties because it's easily seen on the "6" of the date yet it mostly escaped notice until this century.
.
Now that '68 mint sets are getting harder to find perhaps we'll see more interest in it.

If your sitting on some check it out, it may be a way good thing
Not a very prominent DDO, so usually not a large numismatic premium. That being said, it is documented, and should be fairly easy to locate one in a set. Cheers, RickO
Yes. They are not at all tough. This is one of the reasons I like them. I find them very attractive and the doubling prominent enough. I like that most weren't being cherry picked until it was too late after many of the mint set coins were already in circulation.
With many varieties they are just so scarce that you can wear out a pair of reading glasses looking for them so one that you can find is a welcome change. I consider a DDO one of the best varieties. An OMM is better but there are precious few with moderns and the RPM's just aren't as exciting. The only thing I like better is a different type such as the type "b" reverse quarters.
Another consideration is that to be pretty sure of finding one of these you'll to search about "75" '68 mint sets and it's getting increasingly difficult to find so many.
To each his own.
Modern dimes, and all the Roosevelts really, tend to be pretty pedestrian. Most of the rarities are so scarce that the average collector has little chance of finding or affording them. This dime will be available like the '70-D high relief or the '82-NMM.
