Is there a link to the thread you might provide? It could help us understand your post more clearly.

You didn’t get suspicious buying a $470 melt $5 for $350. Greed bit you in the ass.

Got pretty good deals from the BST before and the guy has good history on the BST. How was I supposed to know the account got hacked? Red flags really started getting raised when they were sending pictures of more stuff to sell but the pics were stolen from ebay.

Live and learn. I should get my money back from PP as their PP account was new and PP is currently holding the funds. CS was closed for today so will have to wait till tomorrow to call.

There a good deal and there's a fleecing. You can melt anything at 98%. Why would anyone ever sell for 25% below melt?

i just checked by changing my password to the full alphabet, so we can have AT LEAST 26 character passwords. my previous was only around 15 characters. i am now going to attempt to double that length. :)

probably not a bad idea in this hacking age to change ALL important passwords to insanely long/complex ones. i keep an xls backup on thumb drive and printed out.

the age of keys, passphrases, 2fa etc is nice BUT the drawback is, if you lose access. YOU ARE TOAST.

edited to add, 31 character alpha, numberic, symbol password active. :dizzy:

watched a couple GREAT hacking vids (mostly white-hat but is VERY unfortunate how easily it can slide to the dark side) and it is nauseating just how easy it is to brute force with the efficiency of a few programs and even a half-decent device.

of course and thankfully, doing it and getting away with it (NOT leaving a trail) are NOT synonymous. (some great white-hat hacking vids as well where the ethos is more about understanding how things work, getting under/inside them and improving than anything. (there are/were some great conventions for such)

the power of cheap/free mass-information bites us as much as helps. just depends which way it is nudged.

Did you have an easy password ( words, names, etc) or complex ( random computer generated). Was it shared with other accounts you have? I’m only trying to gauge the expertise of the bad actors that we all need to be concerned about.

Random letters & numbers. Not shared.

  • davewesendavewesen Posts: 6,392 ✭✭✭✭✭

How did you get back in? didn't they change your password to lock you out?

what makes you think they do not have access to your email account and can get to many things?
    or keylogger on your computer?

Maybe it’s the hacker pretending to be the hackee! 😎

Thanks for the alert.... This sort of information can help to minimize the damage to other members. Cheers, RickO

I wasn't locked out. I immediately changed my PCGS sign-in info. When I signed in it was about an hour after they started posting--caught it early purely by luck. So far I haven't had a problem anywhere else.

No, I'm not the hackee playing some twisted game or after suddenly finding remorse.
