Pretty Proof Nickel I popped out of a set... Update, Well, I screwed that up!

You know those after market plastic things with the black felt liner? I didn't even notice the long stuck on piece of fabric over the cheek until I was cropping the photos... now I gotta go soak it in acetone and take new pics.

Pretty color
My eyes may be playing tricks on me but that kinda looks like a strike-thru not something on the coin.
Very nice, was the rest of the 1961 proof set included or was it a mixed set?
The rest was there, just minimal edge toning... nothing like this dynomite nickel.

Nice looking proof - hoping that is indeed a stuck piece of something on the cheek and not a defect

Nice nickel, but I agree... That appears to be a struck through.... not a random piece of 'stuff'. Cheers, RickO
We will see. I tried a q-tip lightly and it did not come off.

It's soaking now, I'll update again when I get a chance...

Sorry. I've been slacking. I'll drown it this evening and update soon.

Looks like a strike-through to me. Look at the depression it's left on the left side of the thread-like anomaly.

i concur. i have been fooled a few times from clear goup but will be astonished if this isn't a strike-through.
pretty nickel btw!
OK, I was a little hasty on the acetone maybe. I guess I didn't quite believe it was anything other than a piece of debris.

After an initial acetone bath, the black thing did not come off with a light q-tip so I left it to continue soaking overnight.
The next day, I checked it and took a q-tip back at it and felt whatever it was "pop" off... and that was the minute I knew I screwed up. It clearly was stuck in the metal they way it gave when it came off.
Now I just have a nickel that is pretty with some type of damage looking scar on it's face.

could still grade and be an error. may have been better with crude inside as retained strike thru. u prob ok.
