My 1st Double Eagle :)

MKUltra24MKUltra24 Posts: 655 ✭✭✭✭

I accidentally posted this on the US currency forum because I didn’t know that was for paper money only.

Thankfully Steve recommended I post it here xD.

Anyway it’s not a rare date or in fantastic condition but it’s my first double eagle and I love it anyway ^_^.

It's a great design and looks like a lovely coin. Enjoy it!

Yes, one makes a nice 'type', but 2 or more and you start thinking of the various sets you want to build...

Yeah they’re way too expensive for me to get 2 of them! xD

Especially since they would be competing with my ancient Roman denarius collection.

I just wanted 1 example of each of the gold denominations.

Currently I have the $2.50 Indian, $10 Indian and this $20 St Gaudens.

I still need the gold $1 and $5 Indian.

Not gonna do the territorial stuff like the gold $0.25 and $50 piece.

Congrats! That is a big thing to get a large gold coin in the collection.

Way back in 1997, for my 25th year of coin collecting I got my first gold coin - a 1924 Saint in an NGC MS-64 holder. Still have it to this day. Of course it was quite a bit cheaper then! :)

Yeah for sure it definitely feels heavy!

I have a $10 Indian gold coin too and I got that back in 2016 and I always thought even that coin was pretty big for a gold coin.

Oh and I have a $2.50 Indian too and it’s teeny tiny xD

    Gold is addictive. :D

After the gold $1 and $5 Indian, you'll start thinking about the $2.5, $5, $10 and $20 Liberty Head coins, then the Type I $1 and maybe throw in some No Motto $10s and $20s for good measure. One day you will want the Type II $1 and the $3.

Nice one! Your first Double Eagle is always the one you will never forget.. :)

I still have my first one, bought it 40 years ago. Not as nice as yours, but I probably will never part with it.

Funny thing about these, they never seem to change. Still has that beautiful color and luster you can spot a mile away.

Oh yeah I’ve noticed gold is very addictive. Now I understand what
“gold fever” is meant to represent xD

But for me if I just want gold I normally get stuff like this since it’s lower over spot :)

Congrats! I got my first gold coin a few weeks ago ($10 Indian). It’ll probably be a couple of years before I get around to the Saints.

Nice! The $10 Indians are beautiful!

My first gold coin was this $10 Indian I paid $850 for when I bought it on APMEX back in 2016.

At the time it felt overpriced but since then I’ve learned it was a fair deal. :)

@MKUltra24... Very nice.... The big gold coins are special. I started, many years ago, with one. Then another... THEN, I started stacking (back when gold was cheap) and got as many as I could throw disposable funds at.... I do not regret it... I have not been buying at todays prices though. However, very happy with what I have.... Love the big gold coins <3 Cheers, RickO

Once I found out it wasn't that much higher than spot to buy a "real" saint, it was game on :)
Then came the upgrades. That's where you start to realize you might have a problem :|

The ones in your set certainly are much higher than spot ;).

An MS65-66 Saint is usually a hefty premium even for common dates let alone more elusive dates.

Be careful of the rabbit hole.
I like the $20 liberties the best. I just bought my 7th yesterday. It should come in the next few days.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

Nice pickup. I picked up my first double eagle last year right before the prices started to climb. I am very happy with my big chunk of gold. I can see how these would be very addicting. I wish I had picked up a few back in the 90s, the current price is a hurdle. I still need to pick up a $10, $5 and $2.5.

Picked up my first Double Eagle nearly 30 years ago from a small shop run by an old dealer in Beaverton, Oregon, when I was quite young-- a huge investment for me. I remember every detail of that purchase experience like it was yesterday-- It has meant a great deal to me for all these years. To me, an incredibly beautiful coin. One day, I plan to submit it for grading. I will never part with this coin. Here it is:

Just one of each type ;)

I don’t plan on getting another St. Gaudens but I do plan on getting a Liberty Double Eagle in the future.

    Basically a gold type set.
