Special thanks to forum member Pedzola!

Pedzola and I met up yesterday to attend the Nashua coin show. He also offered to take some better pictures of my $5 classic head, which up until yesterday was just a photo taken with my tablet. I couldn’t come close to achieving what he did. His attention to detail is really something to admire. From light diffusion to slab prep, he really hit the mark on capturing the beauty of this old, crusty piece. I can’t thank you enough, Chris!

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
A fun afternoon, and a thread that should be more aptly titled "Look at this awesome 1834 $5."

Wow, so you did this while being out and about? No huge full-time setup? If you don't mind would love to know what you used... and roughly what kind of investment would be required. I'll bet I'm not the only one curious.

That is a fantastic coin and a beautiful photo. What a good day and fun time.
Thanks for sharing. Bob
Sugar magnolia blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I don't care ...
Hard to capture these decently, looks like he nailed it. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
To be clear, I have the photo gear set up at home, I invited Bob over after the show. We have connected on deals in the past, this wasn't our first meeting.
I use a Canon SL3 and "system x" copy stand with macro bellows from @rmpsrpms here on the forum.
Plus a couple strong 5k Led bulbs, a laptop for remote shooting, and a couple apps on the phone for editing.
Total investment was under $1k. Photography has been a huge bonus to the hobby for me. I really enjoy it. I interact with my coins via images more than holding them in hand so its important to have great pics. I am definitely not an expert but pretty happy with results so far.
This classic $5 had a much darker coloration than most of the gold I shoot. I can never quite capture a perfect shot but holding the coin up next to the pics after we were done, was pretty close!
Really neat coin with a great look to it. Still has another dimension in hand, but photos came out pretty nice.

Thank you for the info.. Like you, my coins aren't with me all the time either and the collection continues to grow to a point I'd like better shots of what I have. Looks like you're bordering on expert. The final result was better than "pretty nice".
Stories like this show the best of this forum.

He seems like a great dude and you my friend have yourself a cool ass coin ( and now a great pic)

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
That is a really nice coin and super pictures. Years ago I purchased some equipment to take pictures of coins... still have it, have not used it. Right now, all I have time for is phone pictures... When looking at retirement, I thought I would have lots of time to fill... Well, now I cannot figure out how I had time to work.
Always busy, never bored... lists of things to do. And still I work a bit... but that is fun work too. Cheers, RickO
Great photo and coin! Just out of curiosity, could you post your photo of your coin from the tablet? It's always interesting seeing how certain devices handle taking coin pics.

Sure. It was just this slab shot. Getting good close-ups is hard to do with my tablet.
