Local show report.

Went a to a show in Sunnyvale, Cal. today.
Before going into the bourse I sat in the lobby and ended up talking to a man who brought his wife to the show. His wife inherited a number of non US coins and medals from her parents and she goes to shows to show them around, ask questions about same and try to sell some of them. He said the coins are from multiple countries in Europe and date back to the 1400's.
The wife showed up and the three of us talked. The wife showed me some of the coins. Very interesting.
She had a ziplock bag of 85 mostly copper (with some silver) coins dated from the 1700's to the early 1900's that she wanted to sell. She was offered $75.00 for same on the bourse and she declined.
She showed them to me and offered them to me. So I bought them (for more than $75.00). She and her husband were happy and planned to got out for a nice lunch, paid for with her new coin money.
So I have a new project, reviewing and learning about these world coins. Hobby fun for me.
After saying good bye to the husband and wife I went into the bourse. It was good sized, with wide aisles. Attendance was large. A wide variety of persons were present, a cross section of the general population. People were buying, selling.and browsing.
I looked at all of the early proof sets (in OGP and in aftermarket holders) I could see in dealer cases.
I only found one set that I bought. It is a 1959 OGP set containing a gorgeous lock Cameo nickel.
A fun day.
Some coin photos attached.

Nice you may their day with your offer. Don't forget to check for errors/varieties on those coins you purchased.
Thanks for the report and it's nice you made a better offer to them.
It reminds me of when I was in a local coin store when silver was over $30 an oz. A widow (she said she was selling coins of her late husband) had a roll of Silver Eagles from mid 2000's. The dealer offered her $12 under spot for each coin. Knowing I would never be back in that store, I told the woman she could do much better at a different store. I left and don't know what she did. Maybe that was out of line but one thing I hate about this hobby is the dishonesty out there. I do not believe the "she should know what they are worth" holds when you talk about a woman in her late 70's or early 80's.

@SanctionII... Thanks for sharing an interesting show experience. Of the coins you showed, that 1779 is interesting... and the nickel may well go CAM. Cheers, RickO
A couple of the pieces you show pictures of are Hungarian. Thanks for the report.
