09SVDB = an altered 09P-VDB 'Link Included'

Here is the marker I'm going to call out to be a 'Phony' SVDB. The "N" in UNITED is the wrong font!
Here is the altered aspect of it, the mint mark looks more like a 5 than an "S" it also looks like the whoever that did it had problems with positioning it, a couple of times :D

It has a straight bar in the letter B in the designers initials.
    It should be angled.
The mintmark S may have been embossed.
Agree that it is an altered coin.

    Infamous "5" S mintmark.

  • Does this person's username start with L and do they have a 1908 S listed as well? I received a message from someone with the same background in their listings saying that my 1909 S VDB listed was a counterfeit and was being discussed in a 'large coin forum' and was being reported to eBay as being counterfeit. I purchased mine from a coin shop owner that is an authorized PCGS and NGC dealer along with a list of other titles from different organizations known in the coin community. I'm wondering if it's the same person that messaged me about my genuine coin. I started looking for the coin forum my coin was being talked about in and in the process saw this and noticed it is the same background in the photo as the person who messaged me. If anyone has a clue on what forum they are talking about that would be greatly appreciated as I have yet to find it.

@Hailc11 Welcome to the forum! :)

Can you show us your listing photos for the coin you had removed?

  • @ifthevamzarockin Thanks! I'm not sure how to do the image URL on my phone to upload the pictures. I took the listing down since I don't know how they determine it's counterfeit on eBay without close up pictures of the S on the obverse and VDB on the reverse. I wanted to avoid them telling me they removed it. I have almost 1100 feedback at 100% this is the 3rd S VDB I have had the other two sold on eBay. I just woke up for work but when I get off I will upload the photos on my computer and try putting them up that way. I also took close ups of the S and VDB. I'm not worried about the authenticity of it due to who I bought it from. I just think it's comical if it's the same person that sent me a message when they had a blatant counterfeit.

I don't think its possible for a seller to "take listing down" they can only end it and select a reason to why. That means its a closed archived listing that can still be linked to and viewed.
So, if you provide the link to the now inactive listing people here would be able to see it and its images.

We here as a group do not report what we call "Questionable" fakes!
When posting a "Questionable" one I crop out the background, no not include a link, and ask for opinions.

When ebay removes a listing and you run a link to it you get this message,

Here is a link to one that a seller ended making it an inactive listing.

I have not seen your coin talked about on any of the forums I am on.
Your coin appears to be genuine so don't worry about ebay removing it if you relist.
It may have been an upset seller that had one of their coins removed and decided to take it out on you

  • @ifthevamzarockin that's what my thought was on what was going on. The person said the S was added on mine but I found it funny that I'm pretty sure the person that listed this S VDB is the same person that messaged me because it's the exact same background and the S on theirs is clearly not original. I just did a little search on different sites and never found any pictures of mine just this one that's why I was curious on the sellers name that these pictures were from. I'll be relisting mine.

Genuine and clearly not an added mint mark

No one here was talking about it

If you get messaged again, start a new thread here with the listing. We can go through the confirmation process again, then you can complain to eBay about the other person and defend your coin.

The coin the link you provided, that coin would not have made it on the questionable list (I wouldn't have even brought it up for opinions).
    But!
I've have to ask, why doesn't the coin your link went to not have the "Same" black background??
I do remember screening the coin you provided, and I remember skipping over it.
Like others here, I would have called your genuine.
Some other seller could have gotten the idea that if they could get you to pull your listing it would give there listed coin a better chance of selling for more money! (That's only possibly????)

@MarkW63 this link is to a listing for the person that messaged me and the picture you posted has the same background as in their photos, not the same background of my photos. I joined the forum to ask if the listing you posted was the same seller because then it would make sense why they messaged me to say mine was counterfeit. They had theirs removed and just wanted to screw someone over with an S VDB because they were upset. I messaged the person back and said I bought mine from an authorized PCGS and NGC seller and of course they never responded.
