1940-S cent counterstamp

Picked my way thru a large quantity of wheaties searching for errors and whatever. I came across this simple counterstamp, which initially looks like a capital E. Upon closer examination, it appears to be a combination of several capital letters. I see an E, an F, an L on it's back and I don't know what to make of it all. I included the obv damage and it all looks dated. Your thoughts are welcome. If you've seen this amalgam, let me know. Thanks. Peace Roy

I think it's just an E with a little serif elaboration.

I'm just seeing an E also.... maybe the stamp was angled when struck, causing the bottom to look like an L on it's side.

I'm okay with that. I think it was struck several times causing the obv damage. Thanks

I think it is a vintage E also.... However, I can clearly see why you question it. Cheers, RickO
