not to be a negative nelly but JUST from those 2 images, while sharp are not very representative of the surfaces, it looks like the coin has a strong chance of being either whizzed off or otherwise altered. it looks like above the date and the right field there are very harsh gouges/cleaning/polishing lines.

hope it is just the lighting and i am mistaken.

I cannot tell what I'm looking at here..🤔
First glance, very high grade and well preserved coin...closer look raises some big questions.
If you're not yet fully committed, I'd require that it be sent to pcgs and straight grade as part of any deal on this one.

    I'm with @jayPem here.

Part of me says "whoa, nice!" and the more practiced and patient eye says "whoa, be careful!"

The very early die state (look at how sharp the stars are) makes it very tempting ... but ... is there a reason why it is still raw?

Love the strike but not the appearance and surfaces.

Agree with those above, the surfaces look off and messed with somehow. My hunch is that it will come back in a details holder.

Hope I’m wrong, but good luck anyway.

Tough looking surfaces for such beautiful stars.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The coin hails from an old time collection that's going to auction soon. The collector accumulated thousands of coins over a 70+ year span and the collection itself becomes a study into the evolution of acceptable practices. Many of the coins were improperly stored in PVC, or cleaned, or dipped. There are some great toners that resided in paper envelopes for some time.

I will review the posted coin again tomorrow morning when I can have it in hand. It did not have a "whizzed" appearance to my eye. I will post additional photos with different lighting to confirm the whizzing or lack thereof.

After reviewing the coin again, I am back with the disappointing news that the surfaces are more than likely not original. The resulting marks from a previous "whiz" are difficult to detect but are evident indeed. Prior to the photographs, the coin was housed in a 2x2 cardboard holder, the same one sold to the collector however many years ago.

    .
thanks for the new pics. i LOVE follow-up.

it is still a saleable coin, just so long as whizzing is evident in selling images and/or stated outright. it is a 17 bust half in AU and may have been unc prio to whizzing.
