    looks like a nice o/c low-grade barber with some goop on the rev.

    sometimes they are 3s but usually they are 4s.

    I personally think it is a toss up between a 3 and a 4. The goop on the reverse does not really bother me, as I suspect it looks much worse in the picture than it actually is.

    The residue on the reverse looks like it was in an old Whitman folder for many years.

    That coin would benefit from professional conservation although I'm not sure it would be worth the expense. Hard pass on that coin in its current state.

    More appropriate as an album coin than a slabbed one.

    I think that it should have gotten a "details" grade.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
