Tennessee State show report from Chattanooga.

Brief show report with no pictures. Hey, I was busy selling. :) Anyway, it's our state show that occurs twice a year. Arrived to a packed lobby about 10 am. Crowd was predominantly 50+ as it was Friday and the pre-geriatric crowd had to work. That must suck. Lot of folks looking for silver. One Dealer I spoke with said orders of silver eagles from the major sources were taking 2 to 3 weeks to be delivered. That Dealer indicated ASE's going for upwards of $40 but another told me spot plus $7. Lot of business taking place between Dealers and a lot of Dealers asking what I had brought to sell. Demand was there. I sold everything that I had brought to sell at solid prices. I do find it amazing how big of a range your offers will be for the same coin. I had a Dealer offer 700 dollars less than I ultimately got for a $20 Lib. Some are buying if the price is cheap, others genuinely need inventory and will offer a fair price. Just need to find that Dealer that needs what you have. Witnessed a gentleman asking for offers on a box of Dahlonega gold. NGC box was full! Lots of 2021 Peace and Morgans both slabbed and in OGP. A good cross section of offerings in gold and early silver. Looked at a beautiful cameo seated proof quarter in 66. Plenty of raw coins in books to look through if that is your gig. In summary, looked like a busy show with brisk business. Left about 2:30. A great day for me selling which isn't always the case. Strong demand!! :o

Thanks for the report. Sounds like it’s time to move some items to make room for others.

Wasn't comfortable asking to take a look as he was soliciting offers from the Dealers table I was at. I agree, would have been great to look at.

I had planned on attending but those plans fell through.

I’ll be driving to there in a few hours. I’m hoping to sell a nice AU58 $3 and buy some gold dollars. Gold dollars (nice ones) have been getting scarce lately. Wish I would have gotten more before the madness.

I don't want to rain on your parade. But I thought the attendance was pretty slack(especially compared to say 4-5 years ago) and I don't think I saw 50 people waiting to get in at 10. Several dealers I was talking with thought the same. Hope it picked up after I left around 11am or so!

Meanwhile in the day I was away from home I sold more than I sold at the last 2 shows I set up at there combined online.

Edit to add. You are right about the prices. I bought some nice coins but had to step up and pay. For better coins my take is the PCGS Priceguide is the greysheet of old if you are going to be successful buying!

When it comes to gold I think the PCGS price guide has lagged a lot. The crazy prices lately aren’t really reflected there and if you aren’t willing to walk away from a lowball you’ll be giving away a lot.

Thanks for the report..... Looks as if gold bullion is really hot, and the Kitco chart indicates it could go higher. I believe the actual prices are well above melt. Looks like a lot of pent up demand for other coins as well. Cheers, RickO

I just got back from the show. It’s a pretty big sized show. I would call it moderate in size. Most of the items, of course, cater to the $500 and less market. Everyone was buying, though.

I bought two awesome coins. A Bechtler G$1 Carolina gold in XF45 and a 4th century BC Athens tetradrachm.

    Pics? 🧐

I was there also and I agree the crowd waiting to get in, numbered at least 50.

Hey, I saw you at a table but looked like you were busy. The lobby was packed just before letting us go in. Not unlike pre pandemic years past.

Was there a late rush? I came back in the show from a smoke break around 5 minutes to 10 and there was less than 20 in the lobby with few outside!

Were you exhaling? Maybe you couldn't see for the smoke?

LOL! That lobby is small and people would pretty much be shoulder to shoulder if 50 people were waiting to get in. When I came back in there was just enough people to ring the wall and single file in front of the concession stand(that's 2 of 4 walls!). That's why I asked if there was a late rush of people! In the good ole days it was hard to get through the crowd to get back in the show! Excuse me, Excuse me, Excuse me! :)

I could not get to the show on Friday but did make it on Saturday. I bought one Half Dime at the show and sold some dental gold that I had been carrying around for several years. I saw a National Bank Note that I needed but it has been in contact with some chemicals either accidental or on purpose. The green back of the note had a blue tint and the face of the note was also off color. There are only 4 notes presently known on the bank. It was offered to me at $2000. If it did not have problems I would have bought it. I knew that I would never be happy with the note so I passed. Common circulated Silver Dollars were being offered at $30. I had fun!
