My first 18th century coin…

I don’t normally post my new stuff but this one deserves it. Housed in a pcgs holder and graded vg08 with a green bean. So much history. I have a feeling that this is going to lead down a whole new path in collecting. 😂
Thanks to @coinlieutenant for this one.

I've decided I want a 18th c. coin for my "box of 20", and the most affordable seems to be the type2 1798 or 1799 dollar. If I found one looking as nice as that OP coin, I might fall in love...
Gorgeous. I really like coins like this one. Nice wear, nothing distracting, natural-appearing adjustment marks. What a fabulous piece of history.
Beautiful original piece. Careful of the deep rabbit hole you're going down!

Splendid example! I need a flowing hair type myself.

Nice old coin. Lots of history in a piece like that.
Very nice piece!
That is the 1/2 that shows an A over E in states!
I hadn't even noticed that until you mentioned it. Good eye. Apparently this die variety is also the cause of the lump next to the 5 and the stars.
Yes to above!
Very cool!
Wholesome coin! Given the choice, I would prefer no adjustment marks, but it is still a wonderful piece.

Welcome to the boards!
Very nice! I like it!
Great example! I like anything dated in the 1700's.
beautiful example, congrats!
That's a beauty and a worthy part of 20, for sure. Peace Roy

There’s something magic about the 1795 date.
Nice coin you picked up congrats
Very nice A/E. Obverse is better than VG8.
Very, very nice acquisition.... One I would have made as well.... Nice coin with interesting features... Cheers, RickO
A real piece of history right there. Neat!
A wholesome, unmessed-with, piece of U.S. numismatic history!! Congrats!!

Other than size how do you know if the coin is a half or a dollar. Looking at the op’s coin I could not tell.
Very nice coin.
The dollar bust is truncated straight across and the half slopes sharply up, that's the most obvious difference.
Congrats on a beautiful piece of History![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

That's a very good question and I never even gave it a thought that there was no indication of a denomination on the coin itself. Size is obviously a dead giveaway, not that you can tell from these pics though.
The denomination is on the edge. Impossible to see in the older non-prong slabs.
